Ribbon eels are awesome! I love the way they swim it's so cool!
I think you should avoid the eel though, too much competition for food.
There are lots of smallers pretty fish that can be housed with a ceylon/

what other fish could i keep with a ceylon? maybey a tang once it gets to high end brackish/marine? and if i were to get a filter should i get a canister or a normal filter? and as far as canister filters go what should i get for a 55?

and would a eel work in a 75 gallon because i might be able to squeeze one into my room

Depends on what eel but I don't think any would really work well.
A ceylon could be kept with clowns, small wrasses, damsels, lots of stuff.

cool sounds like im going to get a ceylon... does anyoe know how fast they grow and at what size i should put them into full marine?

And does anyone know about what canister filter would do best on a 55 gallon?

This is from pufferpunk's GSP article. Basically the same care for T. fluviatilis. You could maybe add .5"-1.0" to each of those suggested measurements since T. fluviatilis will get bigger than GSPs. Our 2" puffers right now are at 1.012, but we fluctuate the tank slowly by just not topping off the water for a while, then we'll begin to lower the SG by topping off more water.

For salt water, filters as FW fishkeepers understand them aren't used in most cases, a combination of protein skimming, live rock, and moving water with powerheads is more typical.

well im not planning on turning the tank into a full marine for a while as the cost for live rock would be expensive but i might decide to do that in a year. but do you guys use canister filters for your brackish tanks? what are the benifits of a canister against a normal filter other than no noise
