Papaua/Solandri: Differences?

Post by Pufferpunk »

Finally got my Hawaiian blue-spotted toby today! I can't for the life of me tell which one it is. I keeep going back & forthe between the pics of these two & I can't see any difference. Mine doesn't have all the stripes on ie yet either, so I'm guessing it will when it gets older.

I'll try to shoot a pic later. He's busy picking off bloodworms from the rocks. I'm thrilled he's eating!

If you take a pic ill probably be able to tell you which one it is.

Basically, Solandri's have more spots around their nose, while the Papuan has lines. But as you said, i think these become more prominent as they get older.

Have a read of this article http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/5/fish thats what helped me ID louis :)

Are the lips supposed to be white? I suppose if it was a fungus, he wouldn't be eating, especially his 1st day.
