ceylon puffer- full marine?

Post by t1gerbee »

I know they need high end brackish when they get more mature...

but can you take it to full marine?

what size should he be before he should have his salinity raised from 1.006 which is what he is at now.

My ceylon is doing very well now, but i want to do something with the tank eventually, make a bit more of a show out of him so wondering about attempting a marine set up? (my first, puffer is my first brackish.. but now i'm growing in confidence!)

Would he be suitable with any tankmates at all? He's never been tested with other fish (other than initially when he wasn't very well- didn't go for anything, but then he wasn't very well.... )

could he work with soft corals...?

what do you think?

thanks. :-D

Yes, he can go full marine after 4" or so. Leather corals, mushrooms & xenia would be good starter corals with him. You can try damselfish and/or a tomato clownfish or any fast-moving tank mates, granted the tank is large enough & there is enough rock for the fish to go into.
You are getting sleepy... you only hear the sound of my voice... you must do water changes... water changes... water changes... water changes...

thanks puffer punk- i was reading somewhere else that you'd kept them like this, but i just wanted a confirmation.

planning a 'hole in the wall' tank when we have our bathroom extended, so i shall feed him up and encourage him to grow (!) so that i can slowly take him to full marine when it's all done.

don't overfeed too much. Just until their bellies are rounded, but not like they've swallowed a ball.

For them to grow fast, best to have a large tank, healthy nutritious diet and good water conditions.
