co2, 14g biocube and dwarf puffers

Post by Timas Mom »

sigh,

will using the "fizz tabs" type of co2 aditives hurt my puffers?

Do to the high light output, if the balance isnt right I'll be fighting algae non-stop.

Co2 diy rigs ect start to hurt my head with complicated workings, I wanted a biocube for simplicity.
I have searched and find little on planted tanks with puffers. I worry about fertilizing and co2 and the effects it will have on them.

My choice is then to go 12g eclipse or no puffers and just a planted tank...I really wanted puffers.
The only good condolence so far in this debacle is the hubby also fell inlovewith the last 2 porc puffs we've seen and when we make our move ( in the next 6 months) and are settled I can get a 12og for my dream porc puffer...but I digress

Anyone with planted tank and puffer expeirence? I'd appreciate any advice.

I have 4 strip lights on my 90g, with no CO2:

I use Yamato Green liquid fertilizer & Jobes Plant Spikes in the roots.

ohhhhh, Pufferpunk that tank is gorgeous!!!!
I know discus are sensitive, so the fertilzer must be ok.

I will have over 3w/gallon and I worry about algea if I on't use co2.
Thanks

IMO, the "easiest" CO2 additive to use in a tank less than 40 gallons or so is Flourish Excel. Its a liquid and you can just add a little each day.

That said, depending on your plant choices, you might not need it. I can easily grow anubias, crypts, etc with no CO2, but other plants such as rotala indica (well, whichever the pink one is) NEED the CO2. With that much light, you could try it and see what kind of results you get, I bet you'd like it.
