Fahaka's and tank mates

my tank is full of java ferns, windelovs and anubias. nana. They are all great low-maintainence plants. I've managed to house my fahaka with small fishes like danios, Siamese algae eaters and a couple of minnows. I dare not try any large fish or anything that i think might be an easy target (corydoras, bottom dwellers or anything that stays still).

Second on the Anubias nana! It's the only plant I can grow.

Also, I've heard that some folks' Fahakas are botanicidal maniacs that dig up or shred any plant that gets near them, so I'd stick with a couple of cheap plants and see how your puff does.

If by 36" deep you mean top to bottom, that's going to give you a heck of a time growing much of anything.. java fern might be about the only plant you CAN get to grow!

But if you mean 36" front to back, that's a good size, plenty of turning room.

For plants definately go with something you don't have to prune. Crypts, anubias, javas, etc. My favorite planted tank at the moment is my goldie tank, which is crypts, anubias and onion plants. Its 24" deep and I never thought I'd be able to grow plants in there, but those 3 species are doing great under a 65w CF bulb. Its my favorite because I never have to prune anything!

Yes I mean front to back, and I think I will stick to hearty, touch, no prune plants in this tank. My little 10g planted tank with co2 I have to prune once a week.

If you are going employ a sump into the design, you could make some space for a veggie filter and fill it with fast growing plants.

LOL, I'm constantly scooping out pieces of plastic plants floating everywhere. He must attack them at night.

That's the plan my man, I am gonna build probably a 75g sump and fill it will floating plants to help soak up the nitrates

I hope to have it all done and complete within the next year for sure. I am a paycheck to paycheck kinda guy so will take time to get it all. Really though the only things I really have to pay for is a good pump for the sump(2000gph) the glass for the front and the epoxy to seal it. I am also moving in a month so I gotta make sure I got the room for the tank too. Once I start I will be keeping a photo log and posting it on the different sites I am on

So the plans have changed and am no longer gonna be putting a Fahaka Puffer in my plywood tank I build. It is kinda hard for me to turn down an offer for a great deal on a HBRTG asian Arowana for just being a mod on a different forum. These are damn expensive fish and now I will need the plywood tank for that. I have always wanted one but could never justify myself paying hundreds of dollars for one fish but at the price I will be getting it for I cannot refuse. Maybe in the future I will just have to build another plywood tank for a Fahaka cause I still really want one
