im getting paranoid

Post by matt28781 »

i dont want you guys thnking im paranoid but i feel my suvatti must be under some kind of stress here.

hes still pacing the glass up and down and from side to side constantly day and night all my paramaters seem fine although i cant test for nitrate as my tester is reading wrong :? . you will probanly tell me to calm down and hes just settleing in but from everything i have read this is not a suvatti normall behaviour.

do you have any ideas or is this classic paranoia setting in?

He's still settling. I honestly doubt theres anything wrong, and IME Nitrates doesn't stress fish out.

Well, first, obvious question.. are you sure you have the right species? ;)

I think I asked this before, is he in an active area, or a brightly lit one? He might just need a quiet corner in your house where nothing will bother him.

And it has happened in the past, some piece of decor might be scaring him. Is there anything red or pink in the tank or near the tank? Some people have found their puffs are scared of the color red. My burrfish gets freaked out by a bright orange sweatshirt I have. Could be something like that.

What are the parameters you can test for? Specifically ammonia and nitrite? What's up with your nitrates that you can't test them?

ammonia-0
nitrite-0

i cant test for nitrate yet as the test i have for it is reading the same for any water i test as its cheap. it sure is a tetradon suvatti the tank has sand some real plants a few caves and a terocota pot full of sand nothing too bright but he doesnt want to explore them all he wants to do is pace the glass :? . the only time i saw him stay still is just after he has eaten. i cannot see it being a water problem at all, my water changes are big and often i always use water conditioner and i have over filtration. the tank is bright but it only has manafacturers lights in nothing added to make it super bright. i may just be making something out of nothing just want to best for him.

thank you.

Try turning off the light for a few days, if you haven't already done that. That can help calming him down.

Yeah, a tank pic would help.

not really to be honest. i have added a few fake plants now but if i add anymore i wont be able to stir the sand enough. he's fine just after eating he sits on the bottom all grumpy but a few hours later hes off again. he sometimes calms down at night but as soon as you stand up hes there hovering at the front. i noticed today also that he had gone very pale. the paramaters remain stable crystal water clean sand very balanced diet of crayfish,prawns,shrimp,and earth worms. he takes food out of my hand now no problems.

thank you for asking

Maybe its just me but the tank doesn't look that big. Are you sure its a 260l because it looks smaller than my 240l.

ok i fail to see what that has to do with this thread but here are the dimensions

length=39"
width=19"
hight=21"

it says on the box 55uk gallons so that kind of gives it away anyway.

Ok I shall explain. what you are witnessing is either a period of time where the puffer needs to settle in or as my questions are leading, the tank is too small. I merely was checking that the size of the tank was adequate for the puffer in an attempt to rest your mind seeing the number of threads you have posted on the subject. i thought it looked smaller than you said. i wasn't sure, so i asked.
ok?

I did not have the dimensions nor the box to hand at the time of asking.

lol rocker...the tank is big enough mate i see the minimum size is 40 gallons for one suvattii so i should be well under the limit. i do take all advice in and thank you for it. i wasnt being funny. i did tell you the size of the tank when i asked about your baby suvattii fry but you must of forgot sorry for the confusion. i admit on first glance it does look kind of small :? but it has a decent width and depth. i do post alot you are right but its only because i like to think hes looked after the best he can possibly be and i know you guys are the best in the buisness....so i ask you.

thank you...sorry if it sempt i was being rude or funny in any way.
