Good news! I've got six or seven of those "nuisance" snails in a 2.5 gallon tank. It looks like they had babies! There are little white spots all over the tank and many of them appear to be moving, slowly, but they are moving. Hope they grow up quick and we have plenty of puffer food. I'm thinking feeding half of them to the puffs when they get big enough.

Keep them well fed and the water reasonably clean and they will reproduce and grow very fast. You should also ask around at some of the LFS' in your area though. Many of them would be very happy if you stopped in every week or two and removed whatever snails you find in their tanks.

Nearest fish store in the area feeds all their snails to their goldish daily Oh well. I've been feeding the snails a small piece of lettuce and half an algae chip and remove what's left when it starts looking nasty. Then I'll do a 50% water change weekly. I'll let the little guys breed until I find a store I can get snails from on at least a weekly basis.

I save cucumber skins, French-cut green beans, sections of squash (snails LOVE spaghetti squash) and other vegetables when preparing meals. These leftovers are kept in plastic containers in our freezer to be fed to the snails, supplemented by algae wafers and fish food occasionally to round out their diet. Don't try feeding broccoli tops to the snails. It fouls the water within hours and stinks horribly! Snails seem to really enjoy the broccoli stems though and will eat them from the inside out.

My snail tank is heated to 80 degrees and also has a large mass of Java moss. This seems to encourage reproduction. It's good to see that you are keeping you snail tank clean and doing regular water changes. IMHO, it's important to keep feeder tanks just as clean as you would the primary fish tank.

I'm sure I saw two of my new apple snails...ahem....getting to know one another last week...how long till they lay eggs? I check every day.
I feed them par-boiled chard leaf, very thin strips of carrot, beet leaf, batavia lettuce...we have an organic veg box delivery, so they get some of that...how lucky are they?
And still no eggs!!!!!!! Come on, guys.

Not sure how long apple snails take, but mine took about two or three weeks before we started seeing the little guys. It weird. The babies look like little white dots. At first we didn't know if it was dirt, but the next day they were moving around. The same day we saw them moving around was when we noticed the eggs. It looks like a little smudge on the side of the aquarium, but there were little clear round blobs with varying amounts of white inside.

Sounds like they have plenty of good food. What is the temp of their water? Have you identified who is male and who is female? Do they have an area where they can crawl out of the water to lay their eggs? Have you read the info at http://www.applesnail.com? Am I asking enough questions.

Last week i found a 2.5 gallon tank at a garage sale for $2, thought it was perfect to breed snails in, went and got a filter for it and everything. I was so excited. I've seen what looks to be a few "snail orgies" but no eggs yet. A snail somehow got into my fry tank and with in a week I had snail eggs all over the glass. I just don't understand why it's not working any my snail tank. I didn't do anything in the fry tank and got eggs. I'm feeding the snails algae wafers, flake food and lettuce.
Any suggestions or ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated!
