YEP, NEED AN ID

hi,
this species is caught only some weeks every year so it is very seldom to see in lfs. it is sold under name s. annulatus, but since corvus has shown me a good text about the differentiation of s. annulatus and s. rosenblatti i think that it actually is s. rosenblatti. juveniles nearly look the same. it is possible to differentiate them by a very complicated system which, i would say, is nearly impossible to manage with living fish. but there are (very little) differences in the coloration of the back.

the three fish on the top are rosenblattiis, the lower three s. annulatus.
i have long ago kept three of this fish and they never grew more than about 15 cm. they need a lot of space but are not as agressive as most other puffers. thes must be kept in marine or high- end brakish water!

Good point. Looking again it could be S. rosenblatti.

Would need to see the coloration of the back from above to be sure.

However, rosenblatti as far as I remember only occur down to Ecuador, not Peru. If this turns out to be one, it extends the range of the species, which is good to know when dealing with fishes from Peru.
