Hi guys,

I have noticed recently over the last couple of the days that my Fahaka has become rather lazy not moving around as much but still has a great appetite any suggestions why this is or am I worrying over nothing?

I'd disagree. it's perfectly normal for mine to have a period where he is inactive for no real reason, water quality or otherwise.

He gets a monobrow between his eyes when it happens too.

yeah Clooney gets the mono-brow thing but its more triangle shaped Its a reflection of mood and if its an unhappy mood then its always worth doing a water change IMO

Still dosn't hurt to test parameters, when something is different.

the only time | reach for my test kit is when something is off, and even if in doubt a huge water change will only be of benefit

I've been a fishkeeper for awhile now and my tanks are all stable, but I still test them all weekly before doing maintenance and definitely recommend the same to others. You can't always see a problem and its easier to catch any problems that way before it starts badly affecting the residents.

thats pretty sound advice there boxer. I'd be intereste to know if any others do the same? I know If I had been practicing this then I would have possibly prevented the whitespot outbreak Form now on there will be regular testing

I usually don't watch my levels too much, but I do keep the nitrite/nitrate dip strips on hand and check that every few weeks. They aren't super accurate but i'm not looking for actual levels just for changes in what is "normal".

As I do 75%+ WC weekly on my FW, I don't test the water much--pretty sure what I'll find. On SW, I test nitrates every other week & on my reeftank, I also test Alk & Ca every 2 wks.

Yeah of course, I don't doubt that. Whenever anything is up in a tank, reach for the test kit first, the internet second.

Wow 75%.....How stocked is your tank?

I was only in the hobby for a year or so before I had to sale my tank, but I always checked my water every week. Never had any real problems.

My FW tanks tend to be a bit overstocked but 75% isn't any harder to do than 25% or 50%. On my discus, I do 90%.

I agree there, even though Istill carry buckets back and forth, doesn't bother me too much as I know its helping the fish
