White porcupine?

HEy guys Im getting another porcupine puffer and I saw beautiful white sandish colored one but it was really skinny (but it did eat ) and hangs at the bottom of the tank. Is this coloration illness or normal?

colour change due to stress maybe? I have seen fig 8 look really really pale almost yellow due to stress.

What salinity does the LFS where you saw him keep their tank? Most LFS keep their salinity really low (.015 or lower sometimes) to help combat disease/parasites. The fish can survive just fine but their color will look more washed out as a result.

its both. parasites breed less easily and enjoy less free reign, but we keep our salinity at 1.023 and everythign seems alot better. well because it is LOL

Mainly because it is closer to 35ppt Salinity of NSW?

Bear in mind that hyposalinity also runs the risk of liver and kidney damage long term in marine tanks, so best that when we get them home they are kept closer to more natural levels for their long term health?!?!

eh yes and no. keeping sw at 1.018 or so is fine many SW puffers have been seen in lower salinity waters near rivers etc. however the LFS keeps tons of fish and constantly rotates them in amnd out. by having a 1.023 salinity we are matching what our suppliers ship to us and keep our fish in by request. so that way the fish have less stressful acclimations etc.

generally the higher the salinity the better skimmers preform that is why things do better at 1.023 than at 1.017-1.018 our skimmers can pull more crap and kep things alot cleaner. which means less infections etc.
