puffer food

big if....... IF you could only feed your puffer one kind of food, what would it be???

I do understand the importance of a good variety in a puffers diet....I'm just asking out of curiousity.....

.....is there an order of what foods are more healthy than others??

Several reasons, different foods offer different nutrients so the more foods you can get them to take the more nutrients they may potentially take in, feeding one food can cause health issues also they can become addicted to one food therefore if one day they stop eating that particular food you could have real difficulties getting them to eat again.

As a staple diet my puffers have Mussels and then that is supplemented with other foods.

Mine are stapled with frozen shell-on shrimp soaked in Kent Zoe vitamins, and supplemented with silversides, black worms, snails, and mussels. Unfortunately I can't find shellfish that's still in the shell like clams or mussels.

I use earthworm as the primary and snails as secondary for my GSPs, and blackworms and snails as secondary for my DPs. When other foods are out, the GSPs get frozen bloodworms and once every few months, some frozen krill. The DPs get frozen bloodworms when everything else is out.

I think it would depend on the species of puffer.

For most, probably snails or other hard shelled inverts of an appropriate size.

That is my first choice of food when I have them available. After that, earthworms.
