Tell me more about the Cross River and S. American puffers
Well I kind of have two seperate issues that need to adressed. First off what are the needs and requirements of the Cross River Puffer? What type of plants, substrait and fish could they be placed with? If I wanted to make a biotype aquarium what types of things would I need to use to replecate the natural habitat. Is there a site that sells a lot of African aquarium plants? I also want to know if there are any health or dietary issues that need to be adressed? Lastly could I have some links giving more info and or selling the Cross River Puffer on a semi-regular basis? The more links given the better. I aslo would like advice and info from people who have had the Cross River Puffer before.
The second set of questions are much like the first except that instead I want to know about the S. American puffer instead of the cross river puffer this time. I also ask that would it be possibal to have 3 South American Puffers and 2 Goo Obo Gudgeon
(Mogurnda nesolepis) in a 24 gallon tank. Preusmeing that the Goo Obo Gudgeons were introduced first?
Thank you for your time

24 is too small for just 3 SAPS.
No matter how magnificent your successes or devastating your failures, the worlds' approximately 5 billion impoverished people could not possibly care less.

Welcome. Cross River puffers are extremely rare. Its rare you'll ever see one, much less find one for sale. As Nick said, a 24g tank is too small for 3 SAPs. If you want to get SAPs, make sure you thoroughly read the dentistry article in the hospital first.

What tank size would work then?Nick wrote:24 is too small for just 3 SAPS.
That's why I asked. The probelem is that thier dosen't seem to be any puffer that has comparibal traits or characteristics that theBoxermom wrote: Welcome. Cross River puffers are extremely rare. Its rare you'll ever see one, much less find one for sale.
Cross River puffers has.
What tank size would be good then? I also would like to know if I could Goo Obo Gudgeons with the puffers in the tank and not have prooblems.Boxermom wrote: As Nick said, a 24g tank is too small for 3 SAPs.

Re: Tell me more about the Cross River and S. American puffers
Actually fahakas are very much like T.pustulatus (Cross River puffer). Some believe it may actually just be a different color morph of the same fish. They require a 120g tank minimum though.
For 3 SAPs, I wouldn't recommend less than a 40g tank at the absolute minimum. I personally wouldn't go less than 55g for SAPs and gudgeons. There's no guarantee that the puffers will get along with each other or the gudgeons, but SAPs are more compatible with other fish of the same and different species than other puffers, so its possible.

As the Pustulatus is smaller than a Fahaka with a length of 14", I believe you could house one in something like a 90-100 gallon quite comfortably.

Mother Yoda, do you have/have access to the Cross River Puffer? No I do not sadly. That's one of the reasons I came here to ask.manutius wrote:Mother Yoda, do you have/have access to the Cross River Puffer? The problem is that I can't seem to find a type of puffer that looks simmlar to the Fahaka, has the size of that of a crossriver puffer and will not be likely to go "wacko jacko" (if you will) whenever I do maintence of the tank. I would prefer it to be a freshwater one aswell.

Options are extremely limited unfortunately, I would class Pustulatus as the 3rd largest freshwater puffer after the Mbu and Fahaka. After that you drop down to Palambangensis, Leiurus Cambodigensis/Barbatus but they're different personalities to the other 3. It's a tough choice.

Re: Tell me more about the Cross River and S. American puffers
My pustulatus is extremely aggressive, and as a consequence of this, lives alone. Puffers, like people, are unique individuals with no two alike. Perhaps you will find a pustulatus that is not absolutely homicidal. Mine is. If you are in the USA and looking for one, I would recommend contacting Rehoboth Aquatics.Mother Yoda wrote:Mother Yoda, do you have/have access to the Cross River Puffer? No I do not sadly. Re: Tell me more about the Cross River and S. American puffers
Hmmm Very cool. I am really glad I found this site (I'm a new guy) I personally own a tetradon pustulatus (His name is dupree). He is about 5 1/2 inches long at this point, and housed in a 29 Gallon. (I realize much too small) But he will be getting an upgraded tank eventually with canister filtration. He is pretty agressive when he is ready to eat. But other than that he is totally chill. When ever I am working in the tank, he rubs up against my hand is totally friendly. I recentlly (due to, too much nitrate in the tank) had a worm infestation. Even After increasing my water change interval they still wouldn't leave, so I bought about 15 danio/guppies (feeders) to eat the worms. and much to my suprise dupree hasn't touched them. He does follow them somtimes, but never has tried to eat one. Also when he was in the fish store, he had a roommate (another pustulatus) and they got along just fine. But anyways, just thought I'd chime in on the discussion. He is peeking around the corner xD...

This is his cave he loves to hang out in

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the pics, and thanks for such a rockin site!

Give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. Give a fish a man, and he'll eat for weeks.

Interesting pics. Initially from those pics it doesnt look like a Pustulatus, but at that size too big for an Abei. One of the larger target puffers perhaps. Do you have any full body shots?
