Need help with mystery puffer ID
This guy has been in the holding tank at lfs for several days and doesn't seem to be in any distress. I saw him eat some frozen krill today. I have doubts about which species he is because he doesn't look like any puffer in the pufferpedia. At first I thought he was a really big figure 8, but he's a...

Re: porc discolored purple?
yeah, I want to save the live sand and rocks and the fish I have in the tank. I only have two other fish in the tank, they are not showing any symptoms, but I have no other tanks to move them to. In addition, I don't know if the fish are carriers of the bacteria(is it possible?) so I'm not sure that...

Re: porc discolored purple?
grouper passed away today =/ The medication I ordered did not get here in time for me to treat him with it. I am uncertain how to proceed from here. I am going to try and stabilize my tank right now because I've put a lot of meds into it and I want to get rid of all those chemicals so my LR can grow...

Re: porc discolored purple?
okay, no porous materials...so no LR? But then how to get healthy nitrate levels and no nitrites and ammonia in tank? I wouldn't have any biological filters if I removed all of the porous material from the treatment tank. The infection is spreading across my grouper, but not affecting my sailfin tan...

Re: porc discolored purple?
yeah, I'm sad now that my puffer passed away. My grouper is still fighting for his life. The sore has since gotten worse even after full dosing the tank as directed with furan2 for 4 days. I am guessing the medication is not getting into his body where the infection is, because the skin seems to be ...

Re: porc discolored purple?
I think my porc is a goner... too late for more treatment? I just restocked on more meds today. I'm not sure at which point I should remove him for the tank. I"m going to treat the whole tank now to prevent more deaths and hope for the best. Not much change in the fish actually. Which is good f...

Re: porc discolored purple?
If I treat the main tank it will most likely crash because the meds will kill off even the good bacteria in the tank. But if I don't I think the bacteria can linger in there forever as long as I have fish in there... *sigh*... this is a troublesome disease.

Re: porc discolored purple?
lack success with other hard shelled foods really. my puffer was very picky and did not have an appetite for shrimp. This was the first time I tried mussels. I usually use frozen krill soaked in vitamins, I'm assuming that is better than freeze dried krill.

Re: porc discolored purple?
sailfin(6in?), puffer(7in), spotted grouper(8in)
grouper was hiding his symptoms until I checked a few minutes ago, the poor guy has a bad bad open red sore on his side. This is a pretty bad sign, I may lose all my fish to this nasty bacteria.

Re: porc discolored purple?
I also have a sailfin tang that is displaying some odd pits on its head... I've been feeding that guy formula two flake food, small sized spectrum chiclid pellets and brine shrimp enhanced with vitamins so I don't think it's a nutritional deficiency. I wonder if its the same bacteria that is eating ...

Re: porc discolored purple?
yikes, seems this bacteria is dangerous for people as well? I guess I'll be wearing gloves now... I have dry cracked skin during the winter, and from reading articles online there are variations of vibrio that can kill humans. I do have some packets of furan-2 I keep for emergencies which contains 6...

porc discolored purple?
proc puffer in tank for about 1 yr, this guy had lockjaw at one point due to bad diet of freeze dried krill initially. I've been supplementing the tank with 2 drops of iodine every 2 weeks during water changes and he started eating again. I've been feeding him some frozen foods such as frozen krill ...

Any meds/treatment for poisoned fish?
have an f8 puffer in a cichlid tank, fed the puffer shrimp on the shell, but other fishes went after the shrimp as well... all fighting over it. A few mins after feeding I noticed something wrong with my electric yellow, it just kind of stopped at the bottom and sank there... not able to move... and...
