I am setting up a 55 gallon and have access to some one year old captive bred Spotted Congo Puffers. Some are already obviously female, others unsexed, but most likely males. I'm trying to decide if it's best to go with a single fish, or if I kept two would it be better to keep 2 females or a female...

I'm not worried about having to rehome the fish if I find a T. pustulatus. And I realize it could easily be a few years before I do. What kind of mediums are being run in mechanical filters these days?

My 180 for my soon-to-be T. lineatus or T. pustulatus (or Pustulaka!) came with a ProClear 300 Wet Dry full of bioballs and a 850 gph pump. Proclear recommends a 1200gph pump on that filter, but can I get by with the 850gph? Is there some type of mechanical filtration medium that I can just stick in...
