Re: Crowned Puffer (Canthigaster coronata) Questions

:) I missed the "Mentor" part. Thanks as always for your honest opinions. I will wait for a bigger setup before entering into puffer territory altogether.

@Corvus - thanks!
@PufferPunk - awww, they are both so dang cute! So what are your thoughts on the 25 gallon thing? Do you tend to agree with Corvus or...?

Crowned Puffer (Canthigaster coronata) Questions

I recently got a copy of "The New Marine Aquarium" to be better informed about this new hobby of mine. It shows the Crowned puffer as being good in 25 gallons. The profile on PF also says this but I get conflicting info on other sites. Anyone have an opinion on this or experience with thes...

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Yes! First though, I gotta tackle the nitrate problem I inherited :( I'd do a huge w/c but I'm such a noob at marine that I don't want to stun the fish and corals from an imperfect salt mix. I did a 20% change yesterday and so far so good, but it took me well over an hour because I kept messing up w...

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Oh yes, your reef is a huge point of inspiration for me! Money is tight though, so the coral buying will have to be one $10 frag at a time, maybe once a month if I'm lucky!

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Pufferpunk, thanks! I just bookmarked that. I have also joined captivereefs as they seem to have a lot of members in MI.

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

PufferPunk...that is a hilarious description  I am definitely going to try my hand at reefing; even though it wasn't my original intention, I have already fallen a little bit in love with the current fishy occupants :smitten: Anyway, thanks everyone for your support and advice. As I've said bef...

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Thanks, purplecandle for being specific :) That makes perfect sense. We had every intention of getting a bigger tank and doing puffer(s) once we got here, but during the very long and exhausting move we decided we wanted something more compact, and my hubby has wanted marine for a long time; the bio...

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Oh, I like the valentini, very cute. I'll wait to see if anyone else chimes in about their suitability for a 29 gallon biocube.
Thanks for your understanding!

Re: Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Why is it not suitable? Is it the size? Of course, I realize GSP are generally not reef friendly, I would be willing to sell/give away the fish and corals for an acclimated puffer :)

Gave into a reef (gasp!)

Well Folks, we made it to Michigan and upon seeing a 29gal reef biocube setup available for a good deal on Craigslist, we gave in and bought it! It came with a clown, a damsel, a wrasse and some corals. So far so good, but I guess unless I can find an already acclimated gsp, I can't have a puffer :(...
