Re: A little rant, but also some good news.

Couple of things. 1. Having a fish tank outside is just asking for trouble, whether it is on a porch or not. What do you do in the summer when it reaches 90-100 + degrees all day? I live in central Florida, and I know it reaches those temps quite often. Temps here were in the 20's this past week, I ...

Re: Freeze Dried Snails? Help!

I am assuming you want the snails for the beak trimming. You can use other food sources for the same purpose. Mussel, cockle, crab legs, shell on shrimp. All of these can help. My father also lives in Alaska, so I assume you have pretty easy access to some crab legs, you will just have to cut it up ...

Re: Anyone have any tips on breeding ramshorn sanails?

I just got rid of mine, because my puffers refuse to eat them. You only need a few snails to start, I had 20, but that many it's not needed. I had no gravel in the tank, and only a sponge filter and heater set to 75. After about 2 weeks I had dozens of egg sacs and a month later hundreds of useless ...

Re: Gsp's wont eat gost shrimp...

I have 2 ghost shrimp, about 2" now, that I put in there about 2 months ago. They never got eaten, and are now actually breeding in the tank. They actually hitch hike on the eels around the tank, during feeding time, I have tried to get pictures but they never come out. They also have a crayfis...

Re: cycling?

I don't think there is really a fast way. I used Commerical grade ammonia from Ace hardware and it took nearly 5 weeks to cycle my tank. I started with a sg of 1.010 because that is what I planned on keeping the tank at. You can try the instant cycle stuff, but I have had no luck with it shortening ...

Re: Salt Mixing in Large Tanks

Great idea. I have a spare mag drive 7 pump from my wet/dry that I don't use. I will use it. I would of never thought of it.

Thanks for the help.

Salt Mixing in Large Tanks

I am thinking of upgrading to a 75 gallon tank from my 37 gallon. I currently have a 20 gallon rubber tub that I mix my salt water in 24 hrs prior to my weekly water change. Is their a secret to mixing 35-40 gallons of salt water, for my weekly 50% water change? Do you use a huge trash can? Or maybe...

37 gallon filtration

I have had my 37 gallon tank up for almost a year now. The eclipse hood/filter combo was just too loud for me, so I decided to remove the filter part and use my Rena XP3 (rated 350gph) as my only filter. Will this filter be sufficient for my bio load? I have a spare AC 110 and AC70 but I am trying t...

Re: Gonna start a snail tank

Good luck with the snails. My GSP's won't even look at them, even when I crush them. I literally had hundreds of Ramshorns. They won't even eat ghost shrimp or crayfish (now tankmates). They are really picky. All they eat is shelled on shrimp. I even have two moray's in there and they won't eat them...

Re: Buy Ramshorns?

I also got mine from Wilma. I ordered a bunch of Ramshorns and she gave me plenty of extras. No DOA's and very low price. In about 3 weeks I had hundreds of babies, and now I can no longer even see my gravel. My puffers decided they don't like snails, so now I supply snails to co-workers for there p...

Re: f8 brakish or what

Also try some frozen shrimp. I cut mine up and feed them with tongs. Keep the shells on them to cut down on the beak growth.

Re: f8 brakish or what

I can only assume this tank is not cycled due to you not knowing about an F8. Do you have a filter and heater at least in the tank? If it is not cycled you need to just give the puffer back to the fish store and get your tank cycled first. What are your tank parameters? Ammonia Nitrite Nitrate PH Te...
