Re: New Baby Mbu w/ inherited green water...

I have been doing 0% water changes every other day since the last post. The water still hasn't cleared--it did get a little bit better. Water parameters are stable at 20ppm nitrate, 0 nitrite and ammonia, ph at 7.2. Last night the UV arrived! I hooked it up to the return from my canister filter. Wit...

Re: New Baby Mbu w/ inherited green water...

I have done 3 partials this week. I haven't done a wc for the last 2 days as conditions have stabilized. Readings last night were: nitrate 20ppm, nitrite 0ppm, ammonia 0ppm. However, water is still cloudy. Mbu is active and eating shrimp and clams; also have some live ramhorn snails on the way (100 ...

New Baby Mbu w/ inherited green water...

Hi all, It has been a while but my wife(Mermaid) and I are back in the puffer game! Sadly, I made a mistake in putting a toxic material in the tank with our abei puffer, Abe and he died from poisoning about 6 months ago. It was a tragic time for us and we have been hesitant to get another puffer. Th...

Re: Help me help Abe

Long story short, the tiles had water soluble adhesive on them and I believe they leached some type of toxic polymer into the water. Abe, is in sad shape and after several large water changes, I moved him to a quarantine tank with a temp of 86, and added mela/pimafix cocktail and some salt. Not sure...

Re: Help me help Abe

The silicone was GE brand silicone II. I let it cure for 3 days before submerging it in the test tank. It didn't smell like wet silicone at all. I removed the slate and did another water change late last night. I just added some chemipure and will do another water change in another hour. Abe has rig...

Help me help Abe

My abei puffer has become sick. Water is okay: nitrite <10ppm, 0 nitrite or ammonia. Ph is 6.8. He recently has become sluggish (not moving) and developed a thicker slime coat that is picking up a lot of the sand. The sand is also on his eyes. He has been resting completely tilted on his left side. ...

I know the answer but I will ask anyways!

Hi all, I have a very naughty L91 (3-Beacon) Pleco that I have had to take out of my community tank. He is about 8" long and super aggressive towards tank mates I would like to house him with Abe, our Abei Puffer, who lives in a 30g tank. I am wondering if these two titans will clash or coexist...

Re: Puffer ID

I like how he is looking directly at you with an innocent look. "No I promise I did not eat that loach thing....hey, um..just wondering...just throwing this out there..do you have any more of those loachy things..I could watch it an make sure nothing happens to it" Haha. My wife thought t...

Puffer ID

My wife and set out yesterday to buy a small silver arowana and a school of clown loaches for our 175g tank. On the way from one fish shop to another, we stopped off a pretty ghetto fish shop. We were browsing the aisles of tanks and came across a tank full of hairy puffers (either Monotrete Baileyi...

Re: Fahaka puffer in cube tank?

well, not the reply I was hoping for. I kept a 10" red devil in a 55g hexagon tank and that guy just loved to go up and down. Was hoping the fahaka was similar in demeanor. On to plan B! Pufferpunk--I wish you were in so cal, I have over 100lbs of natural color gravel I would give you just so I...

Fahaka puffer in cube tank?

Hi, I have been thinking about getting a puffer. I have kept salt water puffers before and currently have a 175g community tank. Wanted to get a Mbu puffer but I don't have a spare 1000g tank lying around. After researching, it seams like a Fahaka or Cross River (good luck!) is what I am looking for...
