Re: Figure 8 filtration question
Well, I went to the lfs and the had a couple of F8s stuck in a tank with GSPs, so I went ahead and took both. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RwzMTMF5OmI The bubbles are from the spray bar on the 2213 I am using to filter with an AC50. They seem to like swimming up through the bubbles. At the end of ...

Re: Figure 8 filtration question
Nice tank! ...and good idea, I think I'll go with the single puffer and a couple extra bumblebees. It turns out that the emperor is way too big for my 29g with the lid on the tank, so I may use a eheim 2213 currently on my tang tank with an AC50. My local big-box pet store has eheim ecco 2236's on c...

Figure 8 filtration question
I'm doing some reading before I change my 29g to a figure 8 tank...I was planning on getting two f8's and a pair of bumblebee gobies. I'm trying to decide on filtration....I have an emperor 280 which would give me almost 10x turnover, which is good for cichlids. Would this be too much current for pu...

Re: New puffer choices, 29G
I will check on the F8's...the puffers I thought were GSPs may have been F8's...to me they seem to look similar. They were housed with bumblebee gobies. I have never done brackish, but I guess it's really just another parameter to check.

New puffer choices, 29G
Hi all, I am converting a 29g tank (planted, pool filter sand substrate, AC50 for filtration, but I have an Emperor 280 on the way since it has a spray bar) from cichlids to puffers (trading the cichlids for store credit), and need some help with the selection. Here is what is available: Takifugu Oc...

Re: How long until new DP starves?
Are the frozen worms actually sticking out of the cone? I'd just leave them near him on the bottom. Bingo. He's still very skittish, stays at the back parts of the tank, but I did see him pecking at the gravel a bit, so I put a frozen bloodworm in there. He kind of ran away from it as it came towar...

Re: How long until new DP starves?
I put some flakes in, and I think they freaked him out a bit. He went and hid behind the heater, and when a flake hit him, he flinched. Pity the guy at the store couldnt tell me what they were fed. I put some frozen bloodworm in the cone and I'll leave it overnight...Saturday is water change day any...

How long until new DP starves?
Well, I got him last Saturday, and have tried feeding him all manner of things...frozen bloodworm/brine shrimp, live earthworms, and he has a few ramshorn snails roaming around the tank unharmed. I was advised to treat him for worms, so he has had 2 treatments of those parasite clear fizzy tabs. Any...

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
Well, at least the 8 ramshorn snails in the tank now will have some time to clean the algae unmolested.
I'll try frozen bloodworms in the cone again in a couple days.

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
Well, he swam right by the earthworm wriggling around on the gravel. Well, they say hunger is the best seasoning...

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
I'll give them a try today...he is swimming right by the snails. he seems more preoccupied looking out the front of the tank than looking around the tank itself.

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
Alas, I live in an apartment, and they have groundskeepers that I have seen spraying, so that's out. I did go to Petco this morning, and they got new plants in, and new ramshorn snails with them. I threw a few into the tank with the DP, and a few in a clear .5G plastic box with an algae wafer. He do...

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
Well, day two and he's swimming around a bit, so I think this one will be OK. Now if I could only get him to notice frozen bloodworms... I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong with the first one, and this is all I can come up with: 1. At the lfs, he was netted like a typical fish when he pro...

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
Well, the lights are still of, but I can see him swimming around occasionally, so if he is OK when I wake up in the morning I'll go look for snails...I have frozen bloodworm and brine shrimp, but I just have the feeling he's gonna be one of those finicky ones. I got one of those feeding cones, but i...

Re: New Dwarf Puffer behavior
Well, before I turned the light off, I have seen him on both ends of the tank...mostly near the heater in the back left corner, sometimes near the filter intake on the back right. FYI, this is my filter (the 15 model): http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=16729 I have it set...
