Sorry for being late to this thread. I added a clown triggerfish to my reef tank about six months ago. My porcupine puffer (about 4") is quite docile and seems to enjoy the company of the triggerfish. They both seem to prefer the same area of the tank and get on quite well. Neither the trigger ...

It's my understanding that the caudal ray (fin) on a porcupine puffer is the least necessary for locomotion. It's more of a "steering" appendage - think of a boat rudder. I don't know if it will grow back but, in any case, the other rays are likely to compensate for the loss of the caudal ...

Puffito ( a porc) never bothered our starfish. Of course, having a reef tank, we're somewhat limited in the kinds of stars we can keep.

We've had good luck with clowns and angelfish as tankmates for porcs in a 100 gal. reef tank over the past 15 years. Also, porcupines seem to get along with blue tangs. Never had a problem with sea urchins either - we keep 4 in with Puffito. The only tankmate problems were with gobies which Puffito...

Puffito's main diet consists of frozen "Brine Shrimp Plus", freeze dried plankton and Spectrum "Thera + A" pellets. Believe it or not - his favorite treat is snow peas - right out of the can!
