Re: spotted green puffers vs corals?

My GSP has never paid any attention to my corals, but he actually likes to sleep in my acro sometimes.

Re: Won't eat snails?

Like said try crushing them first, mine was the same way actually until I did that. Now he knows it's food and tears it apart on his own.

Re: Would most pet stores do this?

A lfs should have no problem ordering you just a single puffer or two, just find out when they do orders and see if you can get in on one. They will usually give you a cheaper price as well, what they call "out of bag" price at least around here.

Re: Young GSP pacing

Mine does it too, but I think it's mostly when I am in the room and he wants food. Otherwise he is always exploring the live rock, or spending time in his cave, or just swimming around. Adding more stuff should help, but unless he is doing it 24/7 I wouldn't worry about it IMHO.

Re: Adding More Salt to My GSPs

I'm not sure what the tank will have for equipment, but aside from the skimmer good lighting is key and you'd want a good filter with at least 10x turnover rate alone. And look into powerheads to create some additional current/flow. Depending on the lighting, you'd want something along the lines of ...

Re: Adding More Salt to My GSPs

I would move them to full marine, you should find they will become much happier and you can then also use live rock and a protein skimmer. I am glad I made the move, and I am sure my puffer is even more so. But I would shoot for at least 1.023 SG.

Re: Nitrate Issues

You could run some Purigen media, that will help to reduce nitrates quite a bit before it needs recharged or replaced. As a added bonus it also removes proteins, nitrites, and ammonia. There is also the Aquarium Pharmaceuticals tap water filter that is about 40 bucks, it works like an RO unit but ha...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

I've had mine in full marine for about 6 months now, I can honestly say he seems far happier and more active since I switched. He spends hours looking over the live rock looking for food which is fun to watch. He's less than 2 inches and is doing great.

Re: Test strips

I use the strips as it's a lot faster, but I am really only looking to see if it reads anything higher than 0. Because on Nitrates it seems to read 10-15 or so higher than my test kit but I can take a quick look and see if I need to bring out the test kit or not.

Re: Used Tank

You can get scratches out of glass, but it takes a lot of work. And that's only if they are minor-moderate. You need special compound and an appropriate buffer, so in the end it's probably not worth it for you to have someone buff it out cost wise.

Re: gsp and live rock

Thanks for the info. I may try it with mine, I have 2 that are just under 2 inches but I mainly want to so I can use my skimmer and have live rock. I tried searching but couldn't find much other than people just asking about it as well, so that's why I asked in here. I was hoping someone had them in...

Re: gsp and live rock

No not really.

Like I said I'm not talking about the traditional methods related to size. I'm talking about people who put them into saltwater at a young age, how they have been doing since, and how long it's been.

Re: gsp and live rock

I've always wondered this so to add on, how big were the puffers that you guys moved into full marine/live rock territory? Aside from the "traditional" approach.

Anyone know the longest that someone has had a puffer in marine, starting from a young age?
