Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Same here - he's been so happy these last months since he was ill, so I'm very puzzled.

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Well, I'm sad to report that Mitch passed on today  I'm not sure of cause of death, he's been completely fine - more active than ever. I changed the water as usual yesterday (70%, been doing that every week since the amonia spike), he was fine this morning and dead when I came back from work to...

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Just a quick update, he's eating again - his appetite isn't back to normal but he ate some of the prawn I gave him today and is still quite active

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Well he didn't want to eat which isn't hugely surprising but other than that he looks to be fine, carrying on with 50% water changes daily for now but over the weekend I'll move to every other day etc.
Thanks for all the help, soo glad I'm not going to lose him!

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Orange is definitely his normal colour, but as mentioned it does depend a bit what he's been eating (raw prawns tend to give it an orange colour). Good news to report, he's back to normal and very active again - a bit pissed at me for changing the tank water again this evening but he's definitely ba...

Where can I get epsom salt from? (it's not the same as aquarium salt is it?)
On a closer look he's still looking a little fatter than normal

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Good news is he's still with us :D , bad news is he doesn't seem to be getting much better :( . He did a massive poo this morning and seemed fairly perky for a bit as well, swimming around reasonably normally although a bit clumsier than he would if he was healthy. He still looks huge though, very b...

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
tbh I've been a bit lax with getting liquid kits as my tanks are generally extremely stable  I've not used anything for the hair algae (hence trying to mess with the lights - I've still been giving him some light in the morning & evenings though and he's seemed to still be in a good moo...

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
The ammonia kit is a liquid one, the other's aren't thoughLilGreenPuffer wrote:Those are symptoms of ammonia and nitrite poisoning. You really need liquid kits for more accurate readings.
Should I try changing even more water then?

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
:?: Maybe I've put in the wrong numbers (can't remember what the actual numbers associated with the colors are) - I've got the lowest readings that my test kits will register, but not quite zero. Ammonia is an API kit, colour reading light yellow 6 in 1 strips, not white but just above. Hardness off...

Re: Urgent help - Abei dying
Apologies, thought I'd covered most things in my post: 1) Nitrate (<10ppm) , Nitrite (<10ppm) & ammonia (1ppm) 2) 125l, abei is the only inhabitant (& some plants) 3) Flourish excel added every 2 days, feeding every 2 days if he wants food 4) I've been having the lights off a bit more than n...

Urgent help - Abei dying
Hi all, been a while since I last posted - would really appreciate some help if possible. My Abei seems to have gone downhill in the last few hours for no apparent reason. He seems very bloated and stiff and is having trouble swimming. His belly is white but his side seems to be going white like he'...

Thanks for the info
, I'd seen that and but it seemed discus specific
Can this stuff be used without treating the entire tank (ie. can food be soaked in it?) (the directions show to treat the water)
