Re: Sick F8?
I'm afraid the puffer was lost this morning. What do I need to do to the tank (still has a mollie and 2 ghost shrimp)? How long should I wait before adding another fish? I am also debating on switching to either freshwater or saltwater. If I switch to saltwater (assuming I wont have the other fish) ...

Re: Possbile IP?
I don't know what to tell you about the IP's but I can give you some advice for switching to brackish. When you do the next water change, add in some Marine/Sea salt but not aquarium salt. Make sure you get a hydrometer to test the salt level. You do not want to change you salt level by more than .0...
Re: Sick F8?
Ok, I added Melafix and Primafix last night after a 75% water change. He moved around some while I was doing the water change but is now back to laying on the bottom. Nope, haven't made any salt level changes either. So, for future notice, how do you "quarantine" a fish before adding it wi...
Re: Sick F8?
Yes, the water coming out of the filter is breaking the surface. The temperature and water testings are normal. I don't see anything at all on his fins or gills. The salinity is 1.006. I also have an air pump.
Re: Sick F8?
Ive had him for about 6 months, and yes, he has been completely healthy as far as I've noticed. I have several very educated "fish people" that I have inquired to also, and they are all at a loss, too.
Re: Sick F8?
Temperature is 78 (with a heater going). I am using tap water, adding a dechlorinator. I have also had the water tested for chlorine to make sure my dechlorinator is working right, it is. I am using Instant Ocean sea salt.
Re: Sick F8?
Sorry about the double post. I did another water change last night, with no response from him. I was able to test at home for nitrites, nitrates, and ammonia, which were all zero. So, I took a water sample to petco to double check. She said my water was perfect all except for pH was a little high. He...

Help!!
So, my puffer is sick and I don't know what to do! I posted this in the Hospital forum about a week ago, but I am not getting many responses in there, so I am posting it here. I have a 15 gal tank with 1 small f8, a mollie, and some ghost shrimps. My temp is 78, nitrates, nitrites, and ammonia is al...
Re: Sick F8?
I can not find the stuff to test the water. I think I am going to take a sample of the water to petmart/petco. They do testing right? I did another water change tonight because he is just lying on the bottom most of the time. I dont know what else to do. I know ammonia is supposed to be 0 but I doub...
Re: Sick F8?
He's not bumping into things a lot, just noticed him do it a couple times. It does look like an accident. I also noticed once that he tried to nibble on a (fake) plant, and he jerked away when he did. That's why I questioned about the teeth, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. All I have here i...
Re: Sick F8?
Well, it's only been about 4 days since I did a waterchange and yes, it has salt. It is a brackish aquarium. I will get parameters and post them tonight.
Sick F8?
Ok, I have a 15 g aquarium with a small F8, a white mollie, and a couple ghost shrimp. I have had the tank set up for several months now with no problem. I recently got the mollie (along with a black mollie also) and the shrimp for help with keeping the tank clean. All were doing fine, until about S...

Re: GSP's
The tank is too small. GSP's need 30 gallons EACH. I know they are tiny now, but they will grow! There are two things that may be causing them to swim up and down the sides- new tank syndrome or the tank does not have enough plants. I would wait a day or two and if they are still doing it, you need ...

Re: F8's with GSP
Well when I checked it, it was 1.008 for several days- until I did the water change. Plus, I always check it for air bubbles. Hmm :S idk. Maybe just a fluke. I mixed up some more water today and will probably do another wc tonight and check it.

Re: F8's with GSP
I'm having a little problem with my SG. When I first set up the aquarium I had it at 1.008 by adding 1 tablespoon to every 5 gal. Well, I did a 40% wc and added about a tablespoon and a half. The next day, sg was around 1.004. So, I mixed up another tablespoon in some water, poured it in, checked it...
