My carbon is inside the pad, and I've just taken the whole bit out. It hasn't caused any problems that I am aware of?

I have to say I don't see the red either. It seems much the same as what is happening with Azza's thread.

If there is a red dot, it will be very obvious, and it will not change with color/mood changes.
Here is a pic of the red dot on baby cochinchinensis:

Re: What type of Puffer do I have?
These puffers really do need caves. Several, IMO. They like "deep" hiding places where they can be completely ensconced.

Re: What type of Puffer do I have?
I have two of these, and the general concensus is that they are turgidus. They like to lurk in caves, but will sometimes venture out into the open. Some of it depends on individual personality, as one of mine is far more outgoing (and more often out of the caves).

Re: what do you think is best for my puffer
It is just a color morph and does not reflect a difference in nutritional value
Re: Sick DP?
You can burp them, but you have to be very delicate.
Instead of holding directly onto them and making them swim away, you could try making a light fist with them inside and let them swim through your fingers.
It sound like the same thing, I know, but hopefully you get the image.
