Re: OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

How large was the fish when you got it? If it was mature who knows the actual age and maybe it was just a full life. Either way sorry it didn't make it. Thank you JRC3. She was about 2 inches when I got her - she was a Wal Mart rescue. That was about 7 years ago. She was starving when I bought her ...

Re: OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

Thank you, PufferMe. I've never seen or heard of the skin turning that color. I read about it in my frantic search for answers in a blog from WETWEB. They described exactly what I saw happen to Olivia. Here's the link http://www.wetwebmedia.com/brackishsubwebindex/bracpuffaq3.htm The blog is lower t...

Re: OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

thanks. It's sad that in the 7 years you've kept them, you never purchased a proper liquid test kit. Please do a 50% water change right now! Actually, I HAVE had liquid test kits in the past 7 years- many of them. I just don't have one right now and rely on test strips in a pinch. Please don't point...

Re: OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

So Olivia was terribly bloated and I read a forum about burping a puffer that has taken in air. I know that she likes to bite at the surface of the water so I gave this a try... and she released a LOT of air and "vomit" and her tummy went way down. Poor thing, I may be starving her now. Bu...

Re: OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

And she's about 7 years old. I don't know the life span of a GSP but I thought it was linger than that.

Re: OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

The aquarium has been set up for years. Ive run out of test strips but I just did our regularly scheduled water change.... so I'm assuming water quality is within normal parameters. Its a 40 gal with 2 GSPs. Ive almost finished their new 100 gal so this is bad timing for Olivia to get sick and pass....

OMG!!! Please HELP!!!!

My GSP is really sick, she wont move - shes breathing hard and I've attached a picture. My water parameters are within normal limits - and her last meal was shrimp - though she ate waay too much. She ate the other puffers dinner last night - there was nothing I could do. Could she be 'stopped up'? M...

Re: Safety with Live Rock

Ideally I would suggest setting up you 100g and live rock before you add the gsps so you can do all the appropriate WC to get rid of that die off. Too much of that dead matter will give you a ton of ammonia resulting in deadly water Good plan. I intend to ditch my canister filter and rely on the li...

Re: Safety with Live Rock

Hmm...I never even considered boiling the live rock until you guys mentioned it.... a good warning though. I know healthy live rock isn't supposed to have the stench of death. That might make someone want to biol it. I'm hoping to purchase smaller pieces of already cured healthy rock from a dealer a...

Re: Safety with Live Rock

Yes - They are still in the 40gal... I've had to remove some decor and put their tree root on stilts because they're too big to fit under it... they try to wiggle through holes they can no longer fit through. Good news about the live rock though... one has a linear scar along "her" side - ...

Safety with Live Rock

Hi All- I have 2 GSPs that have outgrown their current home and are about to be moved to a 100 gal tank. I plan to take them from brackish to full marine and want to slowly add live rock. My concern is that one puffer always torments the other by chasing and annoying the crap out of her ( I can only...

Re: Have we helped you help your puffer?

You have helped me - more than once. My little Wal-Mar rescued GSPs have found health and happiness through this forum. And believe me - they needed it coming from Wal-Mart. I sent in my donation a couple days ago - and that "Get Puffed" coffee cup is looking really good to me. :D We can't...

Re: Pinkish spot on fin

Thanks guys. The water quality is now good. My priority is to get the new setup going. Olivia has normal behavior and coloration (except for the goldish tint that her tankmate doesnt have) but still has that dang spot. It hasnt grown or moved. I'll just wait it out. The link for dechlorination was p...

Re: Pinkish spot on fin

Looks like its time for a new set-up. I will dust off the 90 gal and I have a 15 gal I can use for a sump. If that's too small - I could use the 40gal they're in now. That would give 120gal of water circulating through the system. I've never set up a sump so I will be googling that. I remember when ...

Re: Pinkish spot on fin

I usually dont use a dechlorinator - I add salt and mix for at least 24hrs before adding to the tank. The chlorine will evaporate off. I used dechlorinator today because Im panicing and the Nitrates were 40ppm.
