Yeah, even the educated pet store around here even insists that you use aquarium salt for puffer tanks. When I told them I use marine salt they acted like they had no clue what that was and once again told me to use aquarium salt as it would benefit all my fish. x_x

Hmm... well, I know a lot of puffer-ers set up their own snail breeding tanks and usually only put the snails in with their puffer when its feeding time. Maybe if he doesn't like eating things off of the bottom, you can try to put the snail on the side of the tank as soon as you put it in?

Hmm... well, part of my fascination with puffers is the way that they seem to hover in the water. And my Figure 8's markings kind of remind me of a bumblebee, so his name is Buzz. Not so original, but it fits.
