Re: Arothron hispidus

Mine will not rush out his cave for me, but he comes dashing over if I have a cup in my hand! Its because he knows his food gets defrosted in one, how intelligent is that!

The fell...

Re: My New Mappa!

I was in my LFS yesterday and they have a black and white puffer which I thought was a mappa, its was labelled as a 'black and white spotted dog faced' and was a BIG puffer and only £70. I asked the manager if they new if it really was a dog faced as the patterned was not spotted but had the same sw...

Thanks for the reply, are the chances of them getting on improved since they are both young? Why do you think th...

Ceylon Puffer with my Stars and Stripes Puffer?

Hi Can I put my Ceylon Puffer in with my Stars and Stripes Puffer? The Ceylon currently shares his tank with a few Bumble Gobies and has never so much as looked at one, he does seem to prefer the salinity on the high side lately a little to high for the gobies. It's about 1.08 but if I drop it his b...

Re: Arothron hispidus

SNAP! Identical to Elvis, although my Puff's name is Homer 2! Homer is out and about at the moment and trying to eat the pink coraline algae, I tell you what this is the most stupid fish, he scares the hell out me because he digs in the sand and then it all sticks to him looks like he has a white be...

Re: Hyper Dogface

Puffing is normally a reaction to stress, i.e. a fright or can be linked to water quality (bad water quality). But I have also heard it can be territorial displays, i.e. trying to fend off the opponent or scare a presumed predator (like a scary human coming near the tank) Its even used in some matin...

Re: Brown Dog Faced Puffer? - PHOTOS ADDED

Thanks again! I don't know what to do with this guy, if he goes back to the shop he is just going to get re-sold to another unsuspecting fool (I being the first fool) and his future is very bleak. If I hold onto him I might have to eventually find a public aquarium to take him. :( I always wanted to...

Re: Brown Dog Faced Puffer? - PHOTOS ADDED

I just had WetWebMedia Crew confirm the same he is an Arothron stellatus. (I'm gutted as I am very attached to him) Plus I made the shop double and triple check what he was and check with their supplier for peace of mind, seeing they are a very well known major aquatic chain here in the UK and he wa...

Dog Faced Puffer with white spots.

I only got him yesterday and I just noticed he has white spot on his fins. I am pretty sure its Cryptocaryon irritans as it looks just like the freshwater version. The tank has been set up a year (was a reef tank till yesterday) and has never housed fish so I don't know how he's got it, he looked fi...

Re: Brown Dog Faced Puffer?

Ok, I know I am obsessed with this Puffer, he is soooooo sweet. I went back to the shop again and asked them where they got him from and it turned out to be TMC, so the shop very kindly phoned them and asked for the Latin name. TMC said it's a colour morph of a Dog Faced Puffer (Arothron nigropuncta...

Re: Brown Dog Faced Puffer?

I went down to the shop today with my camera and the second I go to take the photo the camera flashes "low Battery" and then turns off! HATE THAT CAMERA A better discription would be: base colour olive brown with clear yellowish fins, tiny black spots over body which turn into wide black t...
