no i always thawed the food before adding, just added a little tank water to the food in a little dish and then drained it off before dropping it in.

i was assuming that the tank would be well on its way to being cycled already and adding some tough fish would finish the job?

Looking to replace my poor F8's....recommendations?

As per my thread in the 'hospital' section, my two F8s passed away this week and after some further inspection of water properties and the purchase of some more hardy temporary fish to make sure the tank is cycled I'd like to get a purely freshwater puffer. The red eye puffer is one i like the look ...

Funnily enough i did notice it just after i dropped some blood worms in to try and save poor Dave (who passed away this evening aswell :() and thought maybe it was in the frozen bloodworm block somehow? Anyway i think I'm going to start again....I'm not convinced th...

I have an ammonia test liquid test kit, but no others. To clean the wood i soaked it in bleach and then painted it with white spirits... no seriously i just scrubbed it in a bucket of de-chlorinated tap water. Also i noticed a very thin, white worm around half an inch long swimming around in the tan...

Sorry i dont have the kit to test the water...

Bad news, the smaller of the two died today :(

The other doesnt quite seem himself, i did a 50% change today and gave the rock/wood a good clean. Hopefully he'll survive, i'm going to try and get hold of some more comprehensive testing stuff tomorrow.

Just to add:

I've had teh tank setup with the puffers in for around 5 weeks now so with stable 0 ammonia levels so from what can see it seems to have cycled by now.

Is my little puffer poorly?

One of my baby figure 8's has been hiding in the same spot under some bogwood for two days...only coming out briefly to feed! I did a 25% change today and he swam around for 30 mins or so then straight back to his spot, i did notice that the water temp had crept up a degree to around 27-27.5 deg C (...

Not really like anemone, imagine like half a dandelion seed with a stalk which they attatch with.... i think i've got rid of most of them, have done a few more water changes and made sure to scrub the side first o get them floating around, seems to have done the trick, weird though...they must have ...

little 'things' stuck to the inside of my tank?

Hard to describe, around a millimeter or so in diameter, look like tiny, tiny, clear parachutes...or maybe tiny jellyfish? There are loads of them swaying about stuck to the inside of my tank, i've brushed them off with the magnet but hey come back...p.diddy and dave dont seem to want to eat them......

I've always loved puffers and wanted to keep them for years, i finally got a tank, got bought a 90 liter Juwel tank for my birthday, got it up and running 3 weeks ago, bought ...
