Calcium for snails
Hello, I have a snail farm of Red Ramshorns, but their shells are often very soft and sometimes disintegrate when touched. Very soft water. I would like to add Calcium drops to the water. I also have tried cuttlebone (for birds) in tank, but do not have capacity to add aragonite to filter or substra...

Re: New GSP Deteriorating - Any Course of Action?
Thanks for comments/suggestions.
Added Melafix, will dose for 7days.
Fasting today, have FD shrimp & blooworm soaking in Gel-Tek overnight. Will try feeding tomorrow. Will add garlic if not successful.

No, haven't tried garlic.
Is there a home recipe for garlic solution, or is Garlic Extreme the only game in town?
In either case, how much solution and how much of a soak?
thanks,

Re: New GSP Deteriorating - Any Course of Action?
Stomach not visibly sunken. But since not eaching much, he ain't looking fat. I have to admit I am uncertain of my ability to visually detect symptoms I have read here, since it would be my first time seeing it (first puffer). Raising SG sounds like a reasonable idea. But I wonder if stability is mo...

New GSP Deteriorating - Any Course of Action?
Hello. New Green Spotted Puffer introduced to well cycled tank 9 days ago. Juvenile about 1 inch. LFS in fresh, drip acclimated for 2hrs to 1.005. Tank cycled at 1.002 w/ BioSpria and mulm from established FW tank, then brought up to 1.005 over several weeks w/ biofilter maintained by 1 adult molly ...

Re: Varieties of food for GSP - specific question
Thanks, that is a good and sound recommendation. And one I plan to follow. As an adjunct to fresh, frozen and/or freeze dried may in some cases be quite useful (soaking meds, feeding small puffs with frozen blood worms that are small but visible, etc.). Frozen have already been sterilized, and so li...

Varieties of food for GSP - specific question
With my new puffer I have been allowing him to sample various foods, both frozen and freeze dried, and snails from the snail farm I set up months ago. But I am discovering some of the frozen foods I thought would be core/key foods are just too tiny or mushy when thawed. Among others, I got some Hika...

Re: How to make your puffer warm up to u
If your puffers only hiding place is behind a corner filter, you need more hiding places.
Create caves, place rocks or plants to make hiding places. If your puffers feel safe, they will begin go show themselves more. Do not remove hidng places, add them.

Re: New Puffer added to tank - few questions
Thanks for the generosity of your comments. I have learned much in this site. No, I do not know how long he was in store though I did ask. The seller thought a week or two. There was one other GSP in the same tank, almost totally black and near dead. I know not a great choice, but since my tank tank...

Re: New Puffer added to tank - few questions
Many thanks.
I mispoke re: med for internalparasites. I have Gel-Tek. But remain uncertain whether I should treat new puffer on the assumption infestation is likely, and if so, how to do so with small puff who will take small food.
Thanks,

New Puffer added to tank - few questions
Howdy: I've benefitted many times from this site and finally got my puffer, GSP. Acclimated from fresh to 1.005 in my tank. I was pretty happy he ate the day after being put in the tank. Presently feeding live brine, because that was used as LFS. Will move to frozen bloodworms, etc., soon. 1) How so...

GSP at store in fresh: can I acclimate to 1.005?
Hello:
My only LFS has a GSP in fresh water. Cycled tank that I set up for this fish is currently at 1.005.
Is that too much of a difference, or can I safely drip acclimate this fish from fresh water to my 1.005?
Thanks,
growitnow

Re: Marine vs. Freshwater biospira ??
Thanks, that is helpful. I will use the Freshwater BioSpira. My intention was to cyclethe tank at set up with the addition of BioSpira, then house a couple mollies from another tank in the puffer tank for about a month - at that point I would introduce the puffer (GSP). The tank would at the time of...

Marine vs. Freshwater biospira ??
Hello:
My LFS keeps their puffer tank around 1.008
They told me it was 1.005 when I called, but that they try to keep it at 1.008.
I am about to begin cycling a tank which I will maintain betweem 1.005 and 1.008.
Should I use the Marine BioSpira?
Thanks
