It is not live rock.

I should have mentioned it's not live rock, it is a manufactured piece.

It does not come off easily. It is definitely not any color other than purple, it has a 'crystal' appearance to it also.

Purple stuff on rock??

I have a large rock in my tank, over the course of the past couple weeks the top of it became jet black & this morning I noticed some purple stuff was growing on it...what in the world is it?

Water parameters are fine. Salinity is 1.0008

IMO, if you stirred up the substrate at all and then did a 40% change, you could have removed a lot of the nitrifying bacteria that was possibly free floating after the substrate was stirred.. I'm surprised nobody has asked what your salinity is? What are you using to measure the salinity? It's poss...

Does Java Moss need any fertilizers in brackish water?

BTW, I had very hard driftwood in brackish and within a couple weeks it was very soft and I had to remove it. I didn't experience any PH drops either.

Interesting. It looks like the root is still there on the right side - but it is very very short. The left side has a little bit more of tooth than the other.

Hey guys, I'm sure some of you remember this thread... Well, I have the clove oil. I've been waiting for his teeth to get a bit larger, as this would be my first attempt at trimming teeth & 'tranquilizing' a fish.... Last night I fed them a treat of mealworm and as usual, the puffer with huge te...

IMO I wouldn't place stuff where he paces. That might be where he feels safe.

I just had a F8 that needed a major tank redecoration. I had to remove my driftwood & a red plant. The corner he used to pace, he doesn't pace anymore now.

I do have a bunch of green plants in the tank. In the past 2 weeks I finally found my timer & I've had the lights on a strict schedule. I thought maybe my erratic lighting schedule was making him nervous/stressing him out. When that didn't resolve it I figured something in the tank was startling...

Wow guys, you sure hit the nail on the head with this one... I removed the drift wood. I removed the reflective backing and he looked much more comfortable, yet he was still very skiddish and moved to the front of the tank all last night. I got home from work and he was still skiddish, but I pulled ...

Strange. Both rocks in the tank have plenty of pink in them. Also, I have a small red decorative plant in the tank too.

I'm open to all and any suggestions!

Well, I decided it was time to do something and quit trying to figure out what could be the cause. I pulled the driftwood out and removed the reflective backing from the tank. He's moved from his usual corners & he is swimming the length of the tank, pacing, but atleast he's not in the corners n...

Large F8 is nervous?

As most of you remember, I picked up a new large F8 Puffer. Pretty fish.. However, he is increasingly becoming more and more nervous since I've owned him. Anytime the lights are on he spends his time in corners dashing up and down, occasionally he will go for a cruise and act normal. Other than that...

Good information, but it's very very vague. How much clove oil is needed to tranquilize them? Does that toothache medicine contain clove oil & no other chemicals that can harm the fish or is that picture intended to be cute? Can I find straight clove oil and just use that to tranquilize him? Sho...

Small F8 Puffer Teeth Issue..

My snail tank is currently up and running & I'm waiting for them to breed... Issue is, my small F8's teeth have grown to the point where it's difficult for him to even eat blood worms now. He often swims around with bloodworm hanging from his mouth! I can't see how he could ever get a little sna...
