Conversion to Marine
I'm just thinking ahead here. Bubbles (GSP) is only about 2in long right now. But I've read ion a couple spots that some keep their adult GSPs in full marine conditions. So I just wanted to start researching ahead of time, cause I know absolutley zero about marine tanks. As in what equipment I need,...

Don't know what happened, but nitrites went from 2ppm yesterday to 0 this morning, BEFORE I changed the water. I guess the tank needed a bit more time to cycle. I changed the water again tonight and will continue my current routine until nitrates are down to a more comfortable level. At the current ...

IF I was to get some Bio-Spira and dump it in, would it fix the nitrite problem? I'm not one for quick fixes, but I do want to reduce stress on the little guy as much as possible. If the answer to above is yes, should I get the freshwater or saltwater version? 3tbps/5gal isn't much when 1cup/5gal = ...

Well it's definately ick, one of the few things I can recognize from my old tetra tank. It doesn't seem to have spread overnight, and he's acting better. Such a funny fish to feed, just like giving a puppy treats! Nitrites have not dropped, so I'm gonna do a 50% waterchange tonight adding 2tbps/5gal...

Just my luck, sick GSP
Only picked him up yesterday. Put him in a 32gal tank all to himself. Seemed very healthy all day yesterday and throughout this morning until my wife fed him. After this he dissapeared for a bit (I literally could not find him, must be a really good hiding spot). When he reappeared, I noticed ick co...

Finally got a GSP
Well, it's been a long go but I finally got a GSP today. Had to travel down to Nanaimo, an hour away, to find one, because the local Petland LOST the one we had prepurchased. First time I've ever fishless cycled a tank, it took about 3 weeks from putting in used filter media to having zero Ammonia a...

Still at 84F. For now I'm not too worried. As fall approaches things should cool down. Not to mention since I'm cycling I guess a slightly high temp is a good thing. When the tank is fully cycled I'll do a final water change with cooler water, around 75F, and let it sit overnight to see what happens.

One is stuck to the front left of the tank, heater is on the rear right (not plugged in right now). The other is a floater, not attached to anything, moves around with the current. Both read the same temp. I did fill the tank with warmer water than usual, but it's been almost 24 hours. Figured it wo...

Floating Sand?
Finished setting up my tank last night. This is the first time I've used sand as a substrate. Even though I pre-wet it before putting it in the tank as the instructions said, a bunch of it seems to be floating at the surface and bobbing around with the current. I've tried scooping from the surface b...

Too hot for GSP?
I finished setting up my tank last night, but I think I have a little problem. Water temp seems stuck at 84F. On 2 different thermometers. That's with lights off, tank is never in direct sunlight, and it's not that warm here. Now I haven't even started cycling the tank, so there's no fish in it yet,...

Filter Media?
I just purchased my first canister filter (used to use HOB). Before I get it going I just wanted to poll everyone and find out what kind of media you have in yours and what order you stack it in. Also, for those who specifically own a Filstar XP1: Do you use the powerjet or spraybar attachment for t...
