Re: Suddenly Shy/Early Bird DP

Thanks for both of your replies! I'm happy to hear it sounds like puffers can be a bit moody, I guess that's half of the fun of an intelligent fish :) And I'm glad that the info was clear and helpful--I just hope I've been reading those ammonia tests right.

Suddenly Shy/Early Bird DP

My (probably male) dwarf puffer Nugget has changed his behavior pretty suddenly in the past two weeks. I had a friend feed him on Memorial Day weekend (May 28 and 29), and he said that Nugget would take one bloodworm directly from him and that he'd leave him 1-2 more to eat. (I'm not sure if that me...

Re: Basic Parasite Prevention/Treatment?

Thank you both! Luckily I have an extra 10 gallon, so I've moved the minnows in there. Pufferpunk, how long would you recommend feeding the medicated worms to a DP? I feed him once a day as of now; should I give him medicated worms for a week?

Basic Parasite Prevention/Treatment?

It looks like one of the minnows I added to my dwarf puffer's tank a month ago could have internal parasites (I noticed clear stringy poop, which you can see in the pictures I attached). I've removed the minnows, but I'm guessing I should treat the puffer; if that doesn't seem necessary, though, or ...

Re: DP Tank and Personality (Shy, Bored, or Both?)

Thank you so much for replying! I haven't yet tested the pH of the water from the tap. I add SeaChem Prime to each bucket of water before adding it to the tank (mainly because I know the water is quite chlorinated, as it used to irritate my aquatic turtle's eyes). I'll look into Stability, though--s...

DP Tank and Personality (Shy, Bored, or Both?)

Hi again! I've had my dwarf puffer over a month now (since April 26), and I'm wondering if his environment or something else is making him bored or shy/scared. I would consider it heavily planted, and it has multiple hiding spots (including a Squidward house that he seems to favor, and a cave made b...

Re: DP Poop

Thanks for the reply! I thought the medicine might dissipate into the tank if he didn't eat the food right away. If anyone has experience with shy eaters, or thinks the medicine could dissipate if the worms are left alone for 20-30 minutes, I'd love to know more. Any opinions about the poo? Can the ...

DP Poop

I'm wondering if my dwarf puffer's poop is normal, or if it shows signs of parasites (pics to follow). Two times now, I've noticed multiple chunks of poo that seem to be stuck together by a barely-visible thread. It does not look white at all, and as you can see from the pictures, he doesn't look em...
