Re: Depressed puffer??

His diet mostly consists of frozen shrimp, formula one and two, freeze-dried krill (occasionally), and the ever popular snails that I'd get from my LFS. I occasionally will grab something different from the seafood department at my local grocery store (li.e, scallops, crab, clams, mussels - he's tri...

Re: Depressed puffer??

No thoughts? He's still not eating and I can't figure out what to do.

Depressed puffer??

Hey everyone, My porcupine puffer has recently been behaving funny, and I'm wondering if it's because of the quarantining and untimely death of his only tank mate. Since I quarantined his friend (a GSP that has been living with him for 2 years), my porc (named Phil) has been sulking in a corner and ...

Re: GSP with nasty infection

Thanks Nick. I quarantined him tonight and dosed him with furan-2. It doesn't look promising though... his color looks really bad and he is hardly moving. In addition, the swelling has gotten so bad that he can't eat (he can only push the food around).

Re: GSP with nasty infection

Will give it a try. Is there a particular antibiotic I should get?

Re: GSP with nasty infection

Sorry... I have a porc in the tank with the GSP. The GSP's teeth look normal, so I don't think that's the problem. From what I can tell, it looks like he had a small cut inside his mouth that got infected (there are no obvious cuts on the outside, but it looks like there might be one inside his mout...

GSP with nasty infection

Hey folks, I have a GSP that seems to have developed a nasty infection in the side of his mouth. Half his face is swollen to the point that he can't eat.We noticed it about five days ago and I have been trying to treat him with Maracyn Plus and Melafix with limited success. The tank has been up and ...

My porc doesn't like facial hair. Anybody approaching the tank with a beard, mustache, or goatie freaks him out. If I don't shave for a couple of days, he avoids me too and sulks in a back corner. As for the spitting, my porc has only spit at me once. His aim was pretty good too... he got me right i...

I would definitely follow Puffer Queens advice and run the tank fishless for six weeks while treating all your fish in a quarantine tank(s). It's really the only way I know of to get rid of a parasite infestation. Afterwords, you could consider adding a cleaner shrimp, but depending on your puffer's...

My porc has always had some spots on his fins... ever since I've had him. I'm not sure what they are, but they're definitely not ich or velvet. Does your porc's spots move or increase/decrease in number? Has he/she always had them? Can you get a picture of the spots? It's possible that it may not be...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think GSPs tend to darken as they get older. I'm not sure how quick of a transition it is though (I got my GSP fully grown). Its probably a reaction from the meds or the ich (or both).

Justin/LasVegasGirl - I've battled SW ich before but fortunately, it wasn't one of my puffer tanks. I ran the tank fishless for a month (quarantined my fish and treated them with cupramine). It seems to have taken care of the problem. I also added a cleaner shrimp (don't add to a puffer tank - it'll...

My GSP would probably tolerate a valentini (he's a big coward), but my sharpnose toby is a mean little guy and will bite anything - even if its bigger than him. I keep mine in separate tanks.
