Re: Freshwater feeders for brackish puffers

Thanks for the replies. I had read that library article; good read. The main reason I was wondering is because I have kept cons ever since I got into fish and love watching their breeding behavior, but it's hard to find homes for all the fry. I thought I had read somewhere that brackish fish have is...

Freshwater feeders for brackish puffers

Is there any harm in raising freshwater fish (specifically convict cichlids) to feed to brackish puffers (specifically f8)? I thought I read somewhere that doing this could cause issues, but now that I'm looking for it I can't find it. The feeders would be raised in a seperate freshwater tank and fe...

Re: Cruel Catfish Slaughter

Brutal. Just yesterday I stumbled across some of these vids of cooking and eating live fish on youtube. Again, pretty disturbing.

Re: Newb looking for info

RTR, I noticed a library item (basic snail breeding by Ian Jefferies) that mentions a snail breeding article written by you, but the link is dead and I can't find the article elsewhere. Any idea where it went?

Re: Newb looking for info

I will likely raise both ramshorn snails and cherry shrimp... the shrimp tank I plan to decorate and make it a bit of a show tank as well as being a place to raise food. What would be a good size for each tank?

Re: Newb looking for info

Ok, looks like the shrimp-in-tank idea won't work.
By the way Flutter, cute little beast you have.

Re: Newb looking for info

Cherry shrimp can do fine in the brackish water however they won't do well with puffers in there too ;) I was afraid of that. Is there any way to 'scape the tank that would give the shrimp a chance to survive? Low rock ledges or tight little caves? It would be very convenient if I could leave home ...

Re: Newb looking for info

I'm beginning to lean towards the f8 puffer... what does their natural environment look like? I'm picturing a tank setup with a DIY background to look a bit cave-like with a few plants, java-fern and moss, dark 'cave' walls and rocks to bring out the colors of the fish... is that anything like their...

Re: Newb looking for info

RTR, thanks for the in depth reply. A couple questions about the snails: - can I raise snails in a freshwater tank and then throw them into the puffers brackish tank? - is there a specific species of snail that is easy to breed and nutritious for the puffers? - what size of tank should I use for a c...

Re: Newb looking for info

One more thing... the tank I intend to use is a 75 gallon (48"x18" footprint) with plenty of filtration... water turnover is a bit more than 10x/hr supplied by two HOBs. Another question I should ask is how many puffers (f8 or dwarf) could I keep in this tank?

Newb looking for info

I have kept freshwater tanks for about five years now but have never kept a puffer. It will be a bit before i expand my borders beyond cichlids (maybe as long as two years), but I figure it's never too early to grab information. If I stay with freshwater I plan on going with dwarf puffers, if I go b...
