The Puffer Forum

Hey.. I just finished cycling a 15 gallon aquarium with the plan of addeing a Figure 8 Puffer. Two days ago, I went to the store where I buy my fish, to pick one out, but they were out. They did however have a really cool looking puffer which they called a "Red Belly Puffer." He was a really cool looking guy and the store told me he was a true freshwater puffer, not brackish or saltwater, but he definately had a more marine look to him, almost looking like a dog-faced puffer. This store is usually pretty knowledgeable about what they sell. They were about 2.5 or 3" and the store said they were fully grown fish. I went home to do some homework on this fish, but have not been able to find anything about him. Has anybody in here ever heard of a fish being referred to as this? If so, any links where I can educate myself on them? Very cool fish.

Have a look at the different species of Carinotetraodon in the pufferpedia and the web. Have seen some labelled red belly puffer.

Or if you can post a clear photo of it, that will help as well.

Keep adding ammonia to your tank, to keep it cycled, if it's empty, till you get your puffer.
