I have a little Fahaka, about 2.5 inches. I have been feeding him snails and frozen bloodworms. I tried putting a ghost shrimp in there but he kind of just chases it around like hes practicing hunting. What other foods can I try feeding him now since he is so small? Also with the bloodworms, are they nutritious enough or should I be soaking them in vitamins? Thanks.

when i first got my fahaka a year ago.. i started out with frozen krill let it warm up firs before feeding him.. they love that stuff once he gets a bit larger go with snails and very small crawfish.

Puffers need a varied diet. There are great feeding articles in our Library.

What she said. Small portions to start off with and the bigger he gets the bigger the pieces. Try out as much as you can and see what he likes and dislikes. It is possible as he gets bigger his tastes may change as well.

I've had mine since he was under 2" and have been feeding him bloodworms, black worms, snails, frozen silversides, and grocery store frozen shrimp cut into small chunks. The bloodworms, silversides and shrimp get soaked in declor water with Kent Zoe vitamins.

BTW, I got a scallop shell and trained him to use it as a dish. He's learned that anything I've put in there is food. Also makes it easier for him to eat the worms without them getting into the substrate.

I know he needs a varied diet. I vary my other puffers diets pretty well, it just seems the fahaka is a little picky. Boxermom, so should I be soaking anything frozen with declor before I feed him? Also, can I get Kent Zoe vitamins at any lfs? Are there any other vitamins that are good substitutes? Thanks.

Yes, anything frozen should be thawed before use. If you thaw in water, as I do, make sure its declorinated. Yes, most LFSes should have Kent Zoe vitamins. A little bottle lasts a pretty good bit of time. Not sure about other vitamins, that's all I've used.

Ok, I see what you mean now about the dechlorinated water. I actually just put some of the tank water in a glass and thaw the frozen stuff. I will get some vitamins for him.
