Am getting back into fishkeeping after 6 or 7 years out. Am getting a couple of tanks, noticed yesterday some feshwater and brackish puffers one I think was a congo puffer, what water parameters do these need and do they feed ok on frozen stuff, anyone keep them, what about tankmates, from what I read I assume none! They look like really nice species fish for a unique tank.

As long as you maintain good water quality and introduce to a cycled tank, they should do fine with whatever your Ph is. As for tankmates, none, they'll become lunch. Not the most active but very striking in red.

Frozen foods fully defrosted are fine, check out the feeding article in the library.

The congo puffer is very high on my wishlist. make sure you read up on them before you make the choice to buy. I agree a red one looks awesome Where in UK have you seen them?

It was Maidenhead Aquatics in St.Albans, I will have to pop in again and check they are the ones I think they are as they had quite a few in stock, some lovely fish there!

Hi guys, popped in today to look at the tanks and decide what I want. They had Congo puffer, red colour buried in the sand for £10.50 but also had Tetraodon Suvatti, absolutely love these, I asked the guy if they have to be kept in brackish water and he said yes, elsewhere I've seen them as freshwater, can they be kept in freshwater? They had red eye puffers as well but prefer the arrow heads, lovely fish, taking my eye off cichlids which is silly as the 6ft 8 tank is for the cichlids!

All of the ones you mentioned are freshwater only. Unfortunately, most fish stores and pet stores don't know much about puffers, so I wouldn't ask them or rely on their advice at all without checking here first for accurate info.

yep definately freshwater and pretty reasonably priced too I would happilt purchase either puffer if I had the tank space for them
