asterina starfish for feeders

My buddy had some hitch hike on some live rock that he got. When he first got them he counted 5, 6 months later there is at least 45-50 in his tank now. Doing some research on them, they multiply like crazy and the way it sounds they multiplied pretty slow. Its kind of up in the air if they're reef safe or not, he's only got mushrooms and they haven't bothered them. He's just put in a Harlequin Shrimp to reduce his numbers and has set up a breeder tank for them to keep his Harlequin.
My thoughts are they would be good feeders for puffers, I don't wanna try with my Pink Spotted because he's been peaceful and I don't want him accustomed to chasing anything.
I do have a 90 gal cycling for a pair on full marine GSP's from a friend, they're aggressive. When juveniles in freshwater they took out a 6 in Cichlid. Any thoughts on feeding them to puffers?
