I am interested in purchasing a coupe of these fine fish I have kept DP's and still have three in a species only tank but have some questions on the F8's
Now should this be a species only tank or is there anything that will go with them? It states they are not particularly aggressive but will still nip? Also what would you suggest as a minimum tank size? I was thinking of a juwel rekord 120 or something of similar size with two external filters possibly a fluval 205 or something similar. Would this be sufficient?

Sorry for all the questions want to get this right!!

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave! :)

The tanksize (about 30 US gallons) and the filter sound good for the two puffs.

Figure Eights are generally tolerant of one another and of other tank mates, but sometimes you end up with one that is nippy. I have seen Figure Eights range from incredibly docile to aggressiveness similar to a GSP. If you get two Figure Eights and put them in at least 25 gallons, or about 95 liters, then you shouldn't have any problems with aggression because they will have enough space to get out of eachother's way. Adding decorations and multiple hiding spots such as caves will help.

When your puffers are settled in you could maybe test their temperaments with another non-puffer tank mate that also needs the same low-end brackish water requirements such as a molly or a goby. I would try the molly first just because they are much quicker and less likely to get badly hurt if the puffers get testy.
