The PufferPedia lists Takifugu ocellatus (http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/ug. ... Ocellatus/) as likely brackish or marine, but on at least two online sites I've seen specimens being sold as freshwater fish. The PufferPedia entry for this fish points to a FishBase entry (http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/species ... p?ID=55081) where the fish is described as freshwater/brackish.

Is there any consensus here at The Puffer Forum on the matter?

to the reading list. Those Takifugu being food fishes are increasingly well studied. They are already mass bred in bis pond facilities in China.

Great links! Almost all BW puffers (even high-end BW) are sold as FW fish, so I wouldn't go by that. Also, if you're considering keeping this species, prepare to keep them much cooler than most tropical fish. That seems to help in their generally short survival rate in captivity.

It it possible these are like salmon, and they don't tend to live long after breeding maturity strikes?

In your opinion, at what temperature should I keep it?

I read here (see the second post in the thread) that the temperature should be at about 15-18 degrees celsius (that's about 59-64.5 degrees fahrenheit). Is that how low you mean, or do you mean more around the 21-22 degrees celsius (about 71-71.5 degrees fahrenheit) mark?
