Having One of those Pub debates with another fishkeeper yesterday we ventured into a discussion about his 8 inch Oscar and my 8 inch Fahaka.( no comments ladies )

I would and he would never put them in together but one of those silly debates per sued under influence of the poison liquid.

So who is who here.

In the Blue corner we have a stunning looking Fahaka and in the Red a stunning looking Oscar in a 6ft tank.

What do you think.

Fahaka in a split second. Oscars are just big eaters--not really aggressive--just whatever they can fit itno their mouth. Fahakas rip flesh off fish.

yep Fahaka all the way, the oscar would not stand a chance.

Same here Troender. Hubby is considering giving up his 90 gallon tank to me and I sooooo wish I could put a fahaka in there! He fell in love with them too and suggested I get a fahaka ( I think the offer of giving the tank to me was to be able to enjoy the tank without having to do the maintenance )

No question.There would be only pieces of the oscar left.

Imotep, my Fahaka was okay with roommates til he was four inches or so. Then he slowly drove them out by trying to eat them....even though they were all bigger then him. In one night he took most of the dorsal and part of the tail off of a 4inch diameter Parrot. Last fish out of his tank was a 6 inch Stone/Lion/Toad fish. He would try to kill it and get spined and let up for a day. That only went on for long enough for me to be sure a new tank was cycled.

Fahakas definitely do not share. And there is no doubt in my mind they would win in a fight. I can't really even picture a fish that could do one in. Okay, maybe a grown Red Tail Cat and a baby Fahaka. Happily Imotep is NOT hostile toward people as I have heard others say theirs were. My lung and my suvatti puffer....they try to bite me.

My fahaka lets me pet him. My miurus bites me.

Linus tries to bite me but I think he thinks my fingers are food, not trying to be mean. But definitely doesn't like others in his tank.

My Oscar is all front, i've had big Gibbiceps kick the crap out of my Oscars. Fahaka against a wolf fish now thats a difficult one to call but I reckon the wolf fish would win.

Oscars have their teeth too far back in their mouth to damage anything that doesn't get in there deep... puffers are too round to really take damage other than a fin nip.

There are some small teeth just under the lip. Biting power is quite good on a 12" specimen. They can draw blood.

Yea, probably can on a 12", they do pinch HARD, never had one quite that big nibble on me, but an 8" one wasn't able to do much to my arm, other than annoy me. I have leathery skin too tho.

Mine has tagged me a couple of times at speed. The other one I used to have was a specialist biter. When I was dropping the food into the water he would slowly move into position and then launch out of the water to get my finger.

Fingers are the real risk, they get one of those in there deep, that fish can easily let you pull it out of the tank before letting go.
