Sorry I have also posted this in the Puffers section !
Hello everyone , sorry if this has already been posted But I couldn't find anything on any of the other sections .
I am about to move house ! at the mo I have a 15G Brackish tank with 2 Ceylon Puffers (I think) in it (I know to small , but they are V happy and I am moving them in to bigger surroundings!!)
Seeing the opportunity to re-home my puffers as well I have just bought a 140L tank from a friend for them .... However he has been using it as a Marine tank ?

Are there any things I must do to ensure this tank is safe apart from
1. Cleaning the filter + Power head Very well and Replacing all the filter medium and pads .
2. Clean the tank thoroughly
3. Cycle the tank for 2-3 weeks to get the filter up and running (using old water from other tank to get filter up to speed + filter pads from old tank!)

Am I doing anything blatantly wrong ? or is there anything I could do different to make this new tank a great home for my beloved Puffers ?

If both fish look like the one in your avatar, then they're Ceylons. Best way to tell, IMO is to look on their dorsal side. If they both have those stripes, then they are Ceylons. If they have little dots, it's a GSP.

You're right, that tank is a small, but good on you for moving them up to a bigger tank Just be careful, I had 2 Ceylons in a 20 gal tank, and I woke up one morning to find the more dominant one to have a nip in his/her tail (they're in a 120gal tank now)

As for the cycling, it depends on what s.g. your puffs are in right now. Since they're small enough to fit into a 15gal together, your s.g. should be fairly low brackish. If, however, it is really high, close to marine, what you can do is just lower the s.g. of the marine tank slowly to match that of your current puff tank.

As far as switching water over, you don't really need to, just make sure the parameters are the same. For the bacteria, the filter, substrates and decorations are mostly where they are, so you may want to switch at least some of those as well.

Thanks for the reply (and sorry for multiple postings ! New to this ) They have been together for nearly 9 months in that tank and They haven't ever tried to bite each other , they seem very happy together resting together on the bottom when the light is off and constantly chasing us around the room when the light is on !
They feed very well and have coloured V well . I can't wait to get them in to there new tank ! Thanks for the advise and I hope they travel well !
