I have a F8 who gets a black spot on his belly in the area of it's anal vent. It comes and goes but is most prominent after feeding.

It was at least 1 year old when I got him 8 months ago. When I got him he was thin, so I treated him for IPs. I eventually decided that he actually needed his teeth trimmed. He has been steadily gaining weight since.

He appears to be healthy and happy, but I am concerned about the spot.

Any thoughts?

Hmm...mabe the "him" is a "her" and the mark is the fact that she's sexually mature now???

that's my guess....especially since it's in the vent area...

as I said that's a guess.

One of my F8s was the same, the dark area would come and go, always the same spot - same shape, size, etc. Didn't seem to be due to anything in particular and I didn't worry about it too much. I think its just a variation in the coloration.

I have a green spotted puffer and he get little black, gray spots on his belly that comes and go's also. Its worrying me, but nothing ever happened. He still acted and eat like normal. I just do not know if he needs help or meds or something.

Clooney has a nice round black spot between his vent and his tail. Or should that be HER vent/tail

I do think that it is a possible way to tell the two apart. Like they have to figure it out in the wild right? Many species have *Some* sort of sexual dimorphism, even if it's just a "spot" here or there.....a pheramone leaked into the air/water stuff like that...
