Pufferfish for my desk?

Hi,

I've kept fish before, but haven't got any atm.

I've always liked pufferfish, and I really fancy getting a small (5 gallon or so), tank, and keeping it on my desk in my home-office.

I'd ideally like a really well planted tank, and I'd like sand rather than gravel, with one dwarf puffer. Is this possible? Would any other puffer species be ok in that tank? or maybe a 10?

My other question, is will the puffer be ok for a week every few months while I'm away on business? There's not really anyone I could ask to look in on it.

Any advice would be helpful.

A planted 5g should be nice for a single DP.
I left my figure 8's for 10 days a few weeks ago and they were fine when I got back, not even all that emaciated. If it's healthy, a week away from your DP should be alright.

When I leave my DPs for a while, I just drop a few mystery snails in there for them to munch on while I am gone. They only take little bites. Then when I get back I put the snails back in one of my freshwater tanks to recoup.

I can't do that, I like apple snails, they have cute little faces and more personality than most schooling fish I've kept.

You could put 2 in there. Or 1 and some ghost shrimps or an oto.

We do not recommend more than 1 DP per 5 gallons. One would do very nicely in a 5g tank.

I've found a 10 gallon tank I like now.

What species could I keep in their?

Also, how do puffers get on with plants? I'd like to plant it really heavily.

I have a single C. irrubesco in a 10-gallon on my desk. She is wonderfully distracting. :D

Nearly all active hunters love lots of plants to search for vittles, DPs especially.
