i am back! after one and a half years of being caught up in work.

The story so far

I kept a GSP (Shermy) for about 2 years, after witch i gave Shermy to Bronwyn who was keen to care for one. Bronwyn since migrated overseas and left Shermy with a trusting friend and boyfreind. They have now offered him back to me and i am in a financial position to care for the Shermy Properly

So, being out the game for a while, i need some advice!

I am going to try move him back this weekend ( gives me 4 days to prepare for the move), also going to visit him tonight to check if everything is okay. (i will replay tomorrow with status of the tank)

question i want to ask:

1. Shermy should be about 3 years old now - what age would be good to start moving over to a full salinity tank ?

Its not age as much as it is size. Read PufferPunk's excellent GSP care sheet in our library for details on when to increase the salinity.

I went to visit him last night, he is not looking 100%, i did a water change and a filter clean and check the sanity and temperature. I am going to get some test kits today as she has run out.

The thing that is worring me, is what looks like Ich, white patches on the puffers back, i have been reading through the library and am not sure what would the best method to use to rid the ich.

I called the petshop this morning and i am getting a new tank made up (just because the glass in the old tank is scratched). I am planning to move Shermy(GSP) and all his stuff to my house this weekend.

The plan is to move 50% of the water, substrate and filters to my place and set it all up again (hopefully maintain the bacteria in the filters).

But now with the ich in the picture, i am wondering if there is a better way to deal with the situation, should i rather put him in a small quarretine tank with the current pump and no substrate, setup the other tank and let it cycle before adding Shermy back in again? will he be able to survive in a small quarrentine tank for the 4 weeks it take the big tank to cycle again ?

All suggestions are well come as to the best way to deal with the situation, might it be a good idea to send shermy to a good petshop and cycle a new tank again?
