Hi.
I just noticed my Dogface puffer has a white cottony growth on it. It wasn't there yesterday. I've had him for like 4-5 days and he ate the first day but has not eaten since. Any ideas waht to do? Should I put him in my empty 24 gallon nano cube and medicate that? Thanks.

We need more information. How big is the tank. How long has it been set up. What are the water parameters. How did you cycle it? Did you quarantine him? Are there any other tankmates?

Is it just a big fuzzy bump or does it look like a bulge with a cottony covering? Does it look like its filled with anything?

tanks 90 gallon had it with fish for over 2 years. It has an emperor angel, porc puffer,black percula clown. He wasn't quarantined. It looks like a bulge with cottony covering.

I would put the dogface in my 24 gallon nanocube as a quarantine, but it has an anemone would that hurt it?

This is an advanced bacterial infection. The puffer needs immediate antibiotics - kanamycin, nitrofurazone or maracyn-2.

You can not treat him in a tank with rock, substrate, inverts, corals, etc.

You can treat him with antibiotic baths in a separate container.

I would not expose an established tank, with fish to this fish as this could be contagious.

This puffer appears very thin - need to get it eating. After treating the bacterial infection - need to deworm it.

Again!?!?! You don't think it had anything to do with my last puffer who was sick right? (I got him after you helped me with him too but he died.)


Also what should I do with the anenome? Do you think I could put it in my 90 gallon?

Did you quarantine this new additon? Was the nigropunctatus exposed to the porcupine puffer?

What fish are in the 90 gallon?

Any medication ever added to the tank? What are the water parameters (specifics) in the 90?

He was not quarantined. The fish in the 90 gallon are an Emperor Angel, Black Percula Clown, Flagfin Angel, Porc puffer. Only medicine added to the tank was Penticilin tablets and Melafix/Pimafix.

I would not add any fish to this tank and when you do - please quarantine for at least 6 weeks to prevent the introduction of more pathogens.

Watch the other fish closely. Might consider adding beta glucan daily to their diets for 2 weeks to boost their immune systems. Daily vitamins for life can also help. Keep the water conditions pristine and wouldn't add to the current bioload.

Your tank is overstocked as it is. The porc alone requires at least 100g. Please don't add any more fish. If they are still young & the tank looks too empty, add more decor & you can remove it, as they need more swimming room. Keep a close eye on the water parameters, as porcs produce a huge bioload.

Yeah I know right now it's overstocked. They're still young so it isn't much of a problem. I plan on getting a bigger tank soon.
