It has happened to my husband's datnoid before and now it is happening to his bichir.
What is wrong with the poor fish?

How are the water conditions? Maladies such as this don't normally pop up unless the water quality is suffering in some way or another... Dissolved oxygen levels, dissolved organics (of which nitrate is our indirect indicator). Perhaps stepping up the water changes might be in order?

I've seen similar things with injuries, too. Any recent darting about activity? Anyone picking on him?
