I found some tiny little red/orange ball things in a corner of my tank behind a plant.

I know nothing about the F8 breeding patterns apart from that its rare in captivity, I'm not expecting F8 fry but I was curious wether this was actually spawn?

If not, any other clues?

You could compare color and size to Rockers big article on arrowhead spawning. You will also find some information on what to do with them just in case.

Would be great if they were puffer eggs.

BTW do you have 2 or more of them in the tank or did you buy them recently?

I have 2 in the tank but they are both very young.

I've had them almost a month. I would imagien Puffers would have to settle into their environment a lot before there even being a chance of spawning so its unlikely, but I'm stumped as to what else it could be!

I'd have taken pics but my Dad has borrowed all of my lenses apart from my telephoto one which means I'd have to stand in the neighbours house to get in focus lol.

If they are very young, then it is rather improbable they spawned. Probably the eggs are eggs of something else.

Arrowheads are reported to even have spawned in the quarantine tank of the importer but spawning of f8 is very rare, most reports may seem doubtful.

OOOH Intrigue!!!! What esle is there in the tank that it could be? What typ of gravel do you have and how long has it been in there?

Manutius - Nothing else in there, a couple of snails have been in but only lasted seconds. I have sand not gravel.

I had a similar incident, except the 'eggs' looked more clear/whitish than red/orange. I posted pics somewhere on here...
Anyways, my puffers are probably older than yours so spawning wasn't out of the question, and it happened upon moving my figure eight from a 15 gallon into a 35, and then introducing a very attractive 3" Figure Eight. The 'eggs' were being eaten so I moved them into the 15 but nothing happened... Must just have been puffer poo, or possibly my Knight Goby decided to spawn.

Snail eggs that fell in from above the water line, maybe? I've seen orange colored snail eggs before.

I don't think snails could lay a clutch in mere seconds, though.

I'm truely sorry to hear that. I was hoping I could pick your brain about it. My F8s have never shown any inclination towards reproducing.

I know, I was really hoping they were the real deal as it would help us to understand Figure Eights a bit more, and not to mention the fry would have been so darn cute. I have noticed my figure eight "Hindenburg", the one I figured was the female, has not been so round and seemingly overweight since those 'eggs' appeared. Even when I accidentally give her too much food she never eats enough to get that large.

I suppose all I can do is be on the look out, and hope someone else may document it if their puffers decide to spawn.
