Anyone have any kind of experience with green scats? I was looking at setting up my 70 odd gallon tank for them and was wondering if anyone had any kind of advice, tankmates, warnings, etc.? Also, while were at it, I was wondering if anyone has ever had any luck keeping night gobys with figure 8s? I had some bumblebee gobies in with them, and they disappeared. So I was thinking the larger knight gobies might do better.

I have f8 with 2 knights in a 20 long and they get along fine. The gobies are faster then the puff and I sometimes they chase each other, but nothing serious. I feed the puffer with an eye dropper to make sure he gets enough food since he likes to take his time getting at the food, and by that time the gobies take care of it.

Scats are huge waste producers/garbage cans, in the like of goldfish, or oscars. I would only put 2 in a 70g. They aren't mean.

I have two scats, and they are aggresive towards eachother, but not any of their tankmates. They do not usually fight over food, and they are pretty timid and hide when I am around the tank. They do produce a lot of waste, so I doubled up on filtration... even with that I still have to do my weekly maintenance religiously to keep it clean. One good thing is that I never have to siphon out any puffer poop...

Hey hrpuffersnstuff, what kind of tank mates do you have with those guys? Also, two questions on scats
1. Is a planted tank a must?
2.Do they need full salt as they mature?

Most of the people I've dealt with who keep Scats keep their specific gravity between 1.012 and 1.020. Go heavy on the filtration and you should be able to keep more than two, but be warned they really can create a landfill in your tank. Be prepared to work for them.

A planted tank is not possible with scats, they are avid plant & veggie eaters.

I'm pretty sure they are avid eaters of anything. I just read an old article on them last week (can't remember which one), but the author called the silver, Australian variety the scavengers of the ocean. He talked about how they ate everything.
