The title says all I know.. the fish just keeps puffing for a very long time. What to do?

Do you mean that it has stayed puffed or does it puff up on and off repeatedly?

What species of puffer are we talking about.
What size is he, what size tank is he in, how long have you had him, does he have any tankmates, what are your water parameters?

It is a friends fish. I do not know that size or type. It puffs and keeps staying puffed for a long time.

Thanks! I will try to obtain more information about the poor fish. Please be patient it may take some time.

It is one of two things eithetr a physiological problem that may need burping perhaps or a response to a scary stimulus. If you can get a picture of the fish and one of the tank we woudl be able to help more

I would suggest checking the puffer pedia which can be accessed through the top tool bar for this site.
