The Puffer Forum

The LFS has had two of these for sale for about 2 months now. I am thinking of trading in my humpback puffer in for these. I want a puffer that swims around more and is just more active. Will this fish be more active. Seams like they are b/c every time I go in the LFS they are swimming around or are burrowed in the sand.
Question would be what would be the going price for this fish?
Also any info on this puffer would be great

Some can be relatively active some inactive.
Not a very good choice if you want 'activity' and not a good beginners puffer.

Where abouts are you? How much are they asking?
What colur are they?

I know that they are not as active as other fish, but I have had this puffer for about 6 months now and he hasn't done much. So I was looking at the mirus at the lfs and really like them.
I live in Nebraska, and they are asking $45 each for these mirus.
They are black and about 4-5" in length

From what I've seen, miurius aren't much more active than palembangs. If you're looking for a more active puffer, I'd look for something else. You can't judge their personalities by how they behave in a store, IMO. They're stressed, not generally well cared for, etc.

Black?? Can you get a picture of one?

When the store first got them they where a sandy color, but the store has black sand in there and they turned black.

I often wondered if the colouro of Murius is governed by subsrate colour, do the have a general natural colour but can adapt?

They come in any colour you want as long as its black, brown,grey,marbled, orange and red.

Mine was yellow in the LFS, turned brown in the plastic bag, and ended up brightly red in my aquarium.

Miurus is one of the best puffers for camouflage but they do come in different color morphs, like Rocker has listed above. A marbled brown one wil lnot turn red if placed with red gravel but a red one may turn dark brown or black in black gravel. I have a bright red one w/black sand & about 1/3 of the substrate I added red gravel, to keep the bright color. As in Woland's example, sometimes it's hard to tell the exact coloration, till you get it home, as they can be stressed.

As far as activity--ambush predators (Miurus) are generally less active than the lurkers (Palembang). Mine stays buried, unless she's hungry & then paces the tank, looking for dinner.

How sinsivtive are they to chimicals compaired to the Palembang?

All puffers should be kept in pristine conditions. You should always focus on perfect water, rather than what a fish can handle.
